An aggressive pitbull was shot and injured today in Lakewood, police confirmed to TLS.
At approximately 11:45 this morning Officers Cameron Rose and Anthony Prisco were dispatched to Pine Acres Estates in reference to a dog that was running loose in the area.
Upon arrival, the Officers observed a Pitbull running east on Erica Road. The Officers were able to get ahead and attempted to approach the dog in the area of 52 Erica Road.
Officer Rose reported that the dog was acting aggressively towards him as well as a nearby Golden Retriever which was sitting on a neighboring porch. As the pitbull increased his aggression, the golden retriever ran from the porch, through an open gate to a chain link fence and continued into the backyard.
“Fearing that the pitbull may attempt to cause harm to the other dog, Officer Rose attempted to close the open gate, however, the pitbull turned his aggression towards him,” police say. “Rose attempted to create a barrier between the dog and himself by retreating to the other side of his patrol car.”
The pitbull ensued and began to close the gap while growling and snarling at Rose, police said. “Officer Rose retrieved his weapon and fired one round at the dog.”
The dog, which suffered a gunshot wound, ran to a neighboring yard and is awaiting transport to a nearby veterinary hospital.
What was wrong if he took 2 shots and put him down?
One less vicious dog to deal with.
cops are scared to shoot, he should of emptied the mag on that vicious thing, rather then take a chance of getting clamped down on! ive seen those dogs lock their jaws, once their locked their locked!
Thank you LPD for doing the dangerous work that you have to do
What dangerous dogs way nobody train on “tranquilizer “and Lakewood?
Contrary to popular belief: PITBULLS JAWS DO NOT LOCK!!!!!!
Officer Rose does have rosee cheeks after all and is a great guy.
Y’all just assuming all pit bulls are viscous but what if the dog had a problem with males because of a past owner? Y’all just assume stuff with out thinking. I bet half y’all are just going off the internet and never actually had a pit bull
He is lucky he had a gun to shoot the dog, imagine an unarmed child (or adult) with such an encounter. They should trace the owner and he should be fined for allowing his dog to roam loose like that! Thank you Officer Rose for your heroism.
Jewish people do not have pets and have no education or experience with any breed , therefore should quiet there opinions
I see Many vicious people everyday here in Lakewood!! Food 4 thought!!
Vicious people??? Have I missed something?
ive seen Pitbull’s clamp down their jaws and not open them even when being beaten with sticks, do your research
as a kid in 18th ave park in Brooklyn ive seen pit bulls locks their jaws several times on various items, including someone’s bike tire
I was reading the comments noticed someone says that pits lock their jaw. If you did your research you would see that pit bulls DO NOT have any special physical mechanism that allows them to lock their jaw. You sure really check what you say to make sure it’s true.
