A quick response from the Lakewood Fire Department this afternoon prevented what could have been a large blaze.

A fire broke out in a kitchen in the Brettwood Apartment building this afternoon, but within minutes, the fire was extinguished preventing it from spreading to nearby apartments.

Only one apartment was affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fore Marshall’s office.
