VIDEO: Should this be the new norm for bus drivers in Lakewood?

This school bus driver was not taking any chances.

In light of last week’s frightening incident in Toms River, should dropping off children at the curb – no matter which direction – be the new norm?

  1. I don’t think the driver needed to go all the way across the median and park against traffic. However Bus drivers definitely should angle themselves as an awareness to oncoming traffic

  2. Absolutely!!! Unfortunately some people think the laws of the road do not apply to them! Last week my son was getting off the bus on central avenue and a car coming in the opposite direction completely disregarded the flashing lights. It was dark out already! BH my son was smart enough To remember to look before crossing (as he had been taught)!!!

  3. No. That’s dangerous too. The bus is risking a head-on collision. Keep up the awareness and education and police should step up enforcement. Maybe cameras on busses that can be submitted to police will help. Bus drivers are often driving very unsafely as it is, no need for them to break more laws just because other drivers do.
By the way that bus doesn’t have its lights on, which is highly dangerous and irresponsible—hence the cars keep going while the bus tries getting back to where it belongs.

  4. YES! I have been asking for this for a few years. It should be put into practice and a must for all bus drivers to pull at a slant across all Lanes. Way safer and we should continue to daven that Hashem watch over all the children (and drivers)!

  5. in other places (bklyn for example), bus drivers dropping off children who need to cross the street in front of the bus stop on a slant blocking both directions of traffic (not blocking an intersection though) this way cars behind the bus and cars traveling in the opposite direction cannot pass. I don’t see why they can’t do it here too.

  6. What exactly am I looking at?

I see a bus facing against traffic, based on the side of the street it is on, and no flashing lights or gate deployed…..So again, what am I looking at in this video?

  7. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. Completely illegal. I can’t say it enough how dangerous this is !!!
You people on here, agreeing with how this bus driver completed this stop, are absolutely clueless to the law, and how dangerous a move this is !!!!!!
