CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Lakewood Police take down armed man on Park Ave [UPDATED]

The take-down of an armed man in Lakewood was caught on video today.

At approximately 4 PM today, Lakewood police officers received a tip from a caller regarding a man who was approaching bystanders while carrying several guns at the Self Service Car Wash located on the corner of Ocean Ave. and Park Ave, according to Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer.

The man, who had the guns tucked into his waistband, offered to sell them to bystanders, which prompted the call to police.

Chief Meyer said that Sergeant Messer and Officers Burkhardt and Zavalnyuk responded and approached the suspect, based on the description given by the caller. The suspect became noncompliant and evasive with the police officers, which prompted them to use immediate and necessary force to subdue him.

Chief Meyer said the three firearms were recovered from the suspect, who was then transported to Monmouth University Medical Center for treatment from injuries sustained during the takedown. No police officers were injured during the incident.

The suspect has been identified as Arturo Cuahutle-Flores, 47, of Lakewood, and has been charged with 4 counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and 4 counts of unlawful possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. There are more charges pending, and the investigation is still ongoing.
