The Assembly Women and Children Committee advanced a resolution today sponsored by Assemblyman Ron Dancer that designates the second Tuesday in April as “Equal Pay Day.”
“By paying women fairly, we strengthen families, ensure financial security and ultimately help the economy,” said Dancer (R-Ocean). “Although I believe we have made significant strides since the Equal Pay Act of 1963, women in many occupations are still facing a wage gap. It’s wrong, illegal and it needs to be addressed.”
The Equal Pay Act is a labor law that prohibits gender-based wage discrimination in the United States. It was among the first laws in American history aimed at reducing gender discrimination in the workplace.
“Gender should never be a factor in determining pay. We need to pay men and women the same for doing the same work,” said Dancer.
The date of Equal Pay Day symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, women earned only 82 cents for every dollar men earned in 2018.
The resolution urges residents of New Jersey to recognize the full value of women’s skills and significant contributions to the labor force while encouraging businesses to conduct an internal pay evaluation to ensure that women are being paid fairly.
The Senate passed the resolution in February.
The statistics are a lie based on false information that doesn’t factor in all the variables all it does is look at average male pay vs average female pay ignoring career choices and other factors.
