IMPEACHMENT WATCH: Democrats Unveil Two Articles Of Impeachment Against President Trump

House Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, announced today that they will be filing two articles of impeachment against President Trump.

The articles of impeachment, which outline the reasons why impeachment is warranted, are abuse of power for Trump’s alleged pressuring of Ukraine to investigate his political rival Joe Biden, and obstruction of Congress, for blocking key witnesses and documents from committees conducting the impeachment investigation.

The Judiciary Committee is expected to do a markup, where they will go through that articles of impeachment line by line, debating over and changing words, on Thursday. Once done, the articles will be sent for a vote by the full House of Representatives to impeach President Trump. The impeachment vote is expected to take place before the end of the year, and all signs point to the president being impeached.

Some liberal House members wanted Democrats to unveil more expansive articles of impeachment, including charges stemming from claims made in Robert Mueller’s report into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. But Speaker Pelosi and other Democrat leaders chose to keep the articles simpler, as they are fearful that articles of impeachment which are too broad will ultimately hurt their party in the 2020 presidential election.

The Trump campaign released the following statement: “For months, Nancy Pelosi said she wouldn’t move forward on impeachment because it was too divisive and it needed bipartisan support. Well, it is divisive and only the Democrats are pushing it, but she’s doing it anyway. Americans don’t agree with this rank partisanship, but Democrats are putting on this political theater because they don’t have a viable candidate for 2020 and they know it.”
