In recently surfaced audio from a meeting with residents, Jackson mayor Mike Reina can be heard throwing the Jackson council members under the proverbial bus, blaming them for the dormitory ban that is currently being litigated in court.
The meeting, in which several residents were present, was in order to conciliate the needs of local Jewish institutions and those of Jackson, with Reina stressing that he is supposedly in favor and always was for settlement.
During the meeting, Reina reportedly said that he was not involved in the dormitory ban, laying blame instead at the feet of the Jackson Council, led by now-resigned Rob Nixon.
In the clip obtained by TLS, Reina says the Council wanted “things they couldn’t have,” and is heard saying, “When you’re going against a Council who wanted something that they couldn’t have and took a hard-line approach… that is not the consensus.”
Reina appears to be shifting his positions yet again, moving away from his prior “gloves off” attitude to Jackson’s Orthodox which sank the settlement discussions last January.
A Jackson insider told TLS that there is currently a lot of infighting within the ranks of Jackson’s government with accusations that Jackson officials may be trying to save themselves at the expense of those who don’t want Jews in Jackson.
This audio serves as yet more evidence that the governance in Jackson is indeed fractured and that Jackson politicians may be rushing to save themselves before the ship sinks.
Stay tuned.
