Senator Robert Singer is urging Governor Murphy to throw his support behind a lawsuit filed by the city of Newark against New York City.
NYC mayor Bill de Blasio has been a champion of a Special One-Time Assistance (SOTA) program that provides homeless people in New York City rent money for a year if they move elsewhere.
Many homeless people in the program have moved into New Jersey cities, and when their rent money ends, become a burden on their city.
“Overtaxed communities across the Garden State are already struggling with the fiscal challenges of funding our schools and existing public services for current residents,” said Singer, the Deputy Republican Leader. “We cannot afford to let Mayor de Blasio shift the substantial financial burden of the homeless crisis created by his failed social policies to New Jersey taxpayers.”
In a letter to the Governor, Singer and other senators urged the State of New Jersey, through the Office of the Attorney General, to assume the lawsuit against New York City on behalf of the communities being affected by the SOTA program.
“Since substantial State municipal and school aid flows to the cities that have seen the greatest influx of New Yorkers under the SOTA program, the outcome of Newark’s lawsuit will impact every New Jersey taxpayer,” said Senator Oroho, the Senate Republican Budget Officer. “It’s imperative that Attorney General Grewal commit his capable staff and the resources of his office to this litigation. Given the potential impact of the SOTA program on New Jersey’s finances and those of its taxpayers, we believe this dedication of resources would be well justified.”
If anyone from New York is reading this, maybe think about paying Mayor De Blasio to leave, but don’t send him here.
Maybe New York City should pay de Blasio to leave. Just don’t send him here.
That’s how a caring Democrat takes care of their homeless problem, ship them off to another State and let that State figure out what to do.
Nice going de Blasio
