Toms River Mayor-Elect Moe Hill to attend ‘Save Our Schools’ rally in Trenton

Toms River Mayor Elect Maurice B. Hill today weighed in on the funding cuts to the Toms River Regional School District.

“The reduction in state aid to Toms River will have a devastating effect on our schools and our children and grandchildren’s education. The impact of the proposed cuts to extracurricular activities such as sports, music, drama and the arts programs as well as after school clubs will negatively impact the quality of the education our students will receive,” said Mayor-Elect Hill.

“Education is more than just classroom studies. The extracurricular activities enhance the educational experience and the overall growth and development of the student’s individual talents and gifts,” he added.

“We all have a vested interest in the success of our students and our school system. I fully support our town’s efforts to restore adequate funding to our schools and encourage all of our residents to continue to pursue the restoration of our school aid.“

Mayor-Elect Hill will be attending tomorrow’s rally in Trenton.

  1. Stop giving Lakewood over 30 million every year and give to surrounding districts.
The Lakewood children can be driven to school, the surrounding area schools need the money for teachers and programs

    • Aside for the fact that Lakewood gets less State aid than TR, even though it has more than 3x the student population, what does State aid in Toms River have to do with State aid to Lakewood?

It is a state wide formula, that does not take into account what other districts in the County receive. If you are concerned that the State is “running out of money” because of funding to Lakewood, why no concern for the following?

Newark City $800 million in state edication aid annually
      Jersey City $400 million+
      Trenton $240 million+
      Passaic $240 million+
      Elizabeth $390 Million+
      Patterson $420 million+
      Camden over $30k PER STUDENT
      Union City $190 Million+

Not to mention the many other small towns that receive out-sized state aid. A lot of towns have had issues with the state funding formula, Toms River was temporarily shielded from the problems due to a freeze in place by Christie (A freeze that created winners and losers, TR was one of the winners). School funding in NJ is problematic, but the issues in TR have nothing to do with Lakewood.
