At approximately 3:30 AM Shabbos morning, the homeowner came outside for fresh air, only to find a masked burglar rummaging through his vehicles in his driveway.

  1. This is why you don’t approach criminals yourself. Call the police. It’s also why rabbis say you should call police even on shabbos. Criminals can be violent, even life threatening when confronted.

    • Yea, its assault to try to physically impose yourself on someone in any way, so cut it with your childish toughness. And why they were up at 3 am is none of your concern. Learn some manners.

  2. Is it just me? Videos embedded on the scoop from Vimeo aren’t playing lately. I had my filter turned off temporarily to check if that’s the issue but it still didn’t work. My download speeds are excellent. Videos spend a lot of time loading before and during the videos.
Anyone else having that issue? Is it Verizon again?

  3. Shouldn’t have the fellow phoned the police. What if the perpetrator was armed with a knife or gun? Either that or don’t confront him.

At peril of taking away from the severity of the situation, I do want to acknowledge the chasivos of the individual robbed. At 3:00 a.m. he puts on his hat to fetch some fresh air. Kol hkovod!

  4. Maybe some clarification is due…

I dont think the Rabbanim said that if you see a thug, you should call police on Shabbos.

What they said is: If someone breaks into your home you should call even on Shabbos. This may be because a perp who breaks in may be more “well prepared” ie: dangerous.

I guess we need some clarification…

  5. If the cops wanted to crack down on these guys- they’d take fingerprints so we can track down if its the same person each time, where each perp tends to burglarize & if caught – can be charged with multiple crimes.

They dont bother taking fingerprints as they dont intend to solve the problem

  6. (Who cares why they were awake at 3am).

Most burglaries in lakewood on shabbos are unlocked cars/homes.

It’s not worth them the hassle of breaking a window and making all that noise just to rummage around in a car with the hope of finding something.

If the door is locked, most of these petty thieves will just move on to the next prospect. Sadly, there are enough of them around.

How many break and enters have taken place friday night in lakewood?

So yes, LOCK YOUR CAR and don’t leave anyhthing of value in your car over night especially if it’s visible, because that may cause a snooper to attempt a break in.

BTW, even if your car is unlocked and there is nothing valuable inside, guess what? You get a free overnight airing out of the car.

Squirells rummage where they sniff aicorns.
