Last month, TLS reported that the Township was looking into installing surveillance cameras in the area of Lake Carasaljo.
The idea was prompted by alleged criminal activity taking place at the lake.
Mayor Coles now tells TLS that in addition to the surveillance at the lake, the Township is looking to install cameras in several other locations as well in an effort to deter and reduce crime throughout Lakewood.
The cameras will be monitored by police, giving them extra sets of eyes for live monitoring, as well as provide them with tools to assist in investigations in the event of a crime.
Township officials are currently gathering options, pricing and other details for the project.

And you complain there are not enough officers on the road but you want them to now monitor the traffic from the police station. What do you want? you can not have it both ways. Traffic is horrible from 8a – 10p or so. Its a city you get city problems when you move into it. Our quaint town has turned into a bustling city. Services are overwhelmed, traffic doesn’t move and people are complaining about their safety in general. You have to help the police help you, lock your vehicles, and your homes, don’t make it easy to get into your property. Make the criminals work, any deterrant makes them go to the next house. You can not get blood from a stone, you need to not be victims all the time.
