JUST IN: Possible Coronavirus Case In New Jersey

Health officials in New Jersey are investigating whether an individual in the state has been infected with the coronavirus, which has killed dozens and sickened over a thousand people across the globe.

A patient at Hackensack University Medical Center has reportedly shown symptoms of the virus, which originated in Wuhan, China, and is undergoing testing, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

The virus, which has flu-like symptoms, has infected people in a dozen countries concerning global health officials. Chinese authorities have quarantined several large cities in order to contain the illness but those efforts have not been enough to stop its spread.

Five major airports in the United States are now screening incoming passengers from symptoms of the virus, but Newark Airport is not one of them. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker have publicly called for that to change.

On Friday, NJ Department of Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli sent out directives to New Jersey hospitals on how to deal with possible coronavirus cases.
