Senate Passes Bill Banning Plastic, Paper Shopping Bags and Styrofoam Containers

On Thursday, the Democrat-led New Jersey Senate passed a bill that would ban single-use plastic and paper shopping bags in the state, as well as styrofoam containers, by a vote of 21-14.

The legislation, which environmentalists say is the broadest in the nation, will help in the fight to remove toxins that are plaguing the state’s waterways and help prevent plastics from entering people’s bloodstreams through styrofoam containers. Eight other US states have already enacted plastic bag bans, and two states have passed bills banning styrofoam containers.

Critics of the bill say that doing away with styrofoam can cost school districts millions of dollars.

The bill, if signed into law, would implement a 2-year phase-out of single-use bags and styrofoam containers.

Governor Murphy last year vetoed a bill to place a surcharge on plastic bags, saying that he wanted more robust legislation to be introduced.

  1. Plastics entering people’s bloodstreams??

What about vaccine ingredients aluminum, thimerosal (mercury, still found in some multi-dose vials of flu vaccines and in the single-dose fluvirin vaccine), formaldehyde, monosodium glutamate, DNA from aborted fetal cell tissues, etc. injected into the bloodstream of all schoolchildren…that is ok?? Injecting a literally newborn baby with aluminum and other toxic ingredients in the Hep B vaccine, a vaccine for an STD, is ok??

  2. It is time to get rid of all these “we know what is best for you” Democrats.

Time to vote republican and start repealing these stupid laws.

    Stop the madness!

  3. I’m thinking of introducing a bill that will ban all forms of exhalation.
The aforementioned ban will help decrease the amount of carbon dioxide being exhaled into the air, and thereby slow the process of Global Warming.
It might take a while for people to get accustomed to not exhaling the oxygen they breathe in, but over time, and with practice, it becomes second nature.
We don’t need plastic bags, and we certainly don’t need exhaled carbon dioxide destroying the Ozone Layer.
I’m looking for co-sponsors to the bill and donors. Please join me in this selfless endeavor.

  4. Plastic bags are very convenient and safe, to reuse old bags full of bacreria or those reusable bags that uses much more material is no big help. Most people anyway use a plsstic bag twice or three times before discarding, so y make life harder and more expensive for people?

  5. reusable bags would really help me with those soiled diapers I bet. Wait.. that is probably next. We’ll all have to go back to cloth diapers and safety pins. The diaper truck will come… but it will be required to run on used french fries oil only.

  6. The Democratic have become nutshell. They aren’t for us anymore and what is happening with Route 9? Not single change for 17 years I am here. This is what Democratic is doing to us postponing for the answer.

  7. I’ve lived in a town with a bag ban and styrofoam ban for the past 27 years. I really think it’s time for frumma to accept the fact that we contribute an inordinate amount of plastics to our landfills. Between large families and dependence on plastic tableware our bins are overflowing every week. For those whining about ridding themselves of wet waste after dinner, go online and buy some wax paper bags or recyclable plastic bags. There are economical solutions to these perceived problems. Worried about your hat or wig getting wet? Try buying a reusable shower cap at a Walgreens or Walmart. Use glass jars or canning jars to store wet leftovers. You can safely freeze in a Mason jar if you leave sufficient headspace. There are solutions. Many of us have been dealing with this for many years, the sky has not fallen.

  8. To amil zola, yes there are solutions, but why make probleb to need solutions, is it really practical to dtsrt using glass jars now? Leave good enough alone.
