FIRST REPORT: Rabbi Aaron Kotler Appointed to State of New Jersey TAG Study Commission

Rabbi Aaron Kotler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Beth Medrash Govoha, has been appointed to the State of New Jersey Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) Study Commission.

Attached is the formal appointment letter, made by New Jersey Senate President Steven Sweeney, who is authorized by law to make the appointments.

The TAG Study Commission will determine the future of the state’s Tuition Aid Grant program, which covers 13% of BMG’s annual budget, and which is a major source of tuition aid revenue for Yeshivos and other Higher Education institutions in New Jersey. Rabbi Kotler brought the TAG program to BMG in 1999.

The TAG program has an annual budget of over $435 Million, and it is the subject of much discussion among New Jersey Higher Ed institutions and officials about funding eligibility and allocations.

Rabbi Kotler will serve on the Study Commission alongside the Executive Director of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, leaders in NJ Higher Education including representatives of the Public Colleges, Independent Colleges and Proprietary Schools, and other distinguished leaders appointed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly.

His participation will afford BMG and New Jersey Yeshivos a unique voice in the future of this vital program.

Rabbi Kotler also served on the State of New Jersey Governor’s Study Commission on New Jersey’s Nonpublic schools. He serves on other State of New Jersey bodies, including the State of New Jersey Presidents’ Council, which governs Higher Education in New Jersey, and on the N.J.P.C. Budget Committee which advises the State of New Jersey on Higher Education funding.
