A report of a student with a gun prompted the lockdown of Lakewood’s Oak Street School this morning, TLS has learned.
Upon arrival to school, a young student told a staff member that another student had a gun, sources say.
Following protocol, the school was placed on lockdown and the student and his book-bag were searched – with negative results.
After approximately 10 minutes, the lockdown was lifted.
UPDATE: Police released the following statement:
At approximately 8am, Officers responded to the Oak Street School for a report of a student in possession of a weapon.
The school was locked down by the building administrator as a precautionary measure prior to police arrival.
When officers arrived on scene, they immediately identified the 8 year old student in question and determined that he was not armed. The responding officers also ruled out the presence of a weapon in the classroom and the bus that drove the student to school.
The school administrator is handing this incident internally and DCP&P was also notified.
