List potholes around Lakewood; How to file a claim for damage to your vehicle

Complaints about potholes are once again beginning to pour in.

If you spot (or feel) a pothole in Lakewood, list it below so we can submit a list to the Township.

You can also report potholes to the DPW at 732-905-3405.

Should your vehicle body be damaged from the pothole, you should file a police report. You can then use the report to file a claim.

To file a claim:

You must first determine if the pothole incident occurred on a Township, County, State highway or on a toll road.

For incidents on County roads, you can call the purchasing department at 732-929-2101. For Lakewood, you can call 732.364.2500.

If your accident was on the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike, please visit http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/maintenance-issue.html or call 732-750-5300.

Accidents on the Atlantic City Expressway are handled by the South Jersey Transportation Authority. You may visit their website www.sjta.com or call 609-965-6060.

If it occurred on a New Jersey State-owned highway, you may fill out the PROPERTY DAMAGE CLAIM-SHORT FORM.

The Registered Owner, and not the driver, of the damaged vehicle must complete, sign and date the Notice of Claim and mail it to the address on the form within 90 days from the date of the incident to preserve their legal rights. The preferred method is via certified mail return receipt requested. Please keep copies of the claim form and submittals for your records.

The claim form must, at a minimum, include:

(a) An estimate for repairs and/or a receipt showing proof of payment for any repairs made;
(b) Specific location where the incident occurred (nearest exit, mile post, cross street, relevant landmarks, etc.)
(c) A copy of an official police report, if one was filed at the time of the incident;
(d) A copy of the Declaration page of the auto policy for the registered owner of the vehicle. However, photos of the pothole are not necessary.
5. Please allow 3 to 6 months for your claim to be resolved. You should note that payment/reimbursement is not guaranteed.

  1. Williams & pine there are craters in the road.
    The section of pine between the tracks and route 9 due to all the construction has been ripped up many times and never properly repaired therefore my alignment is off!
    those building the houses there should pay for my alignment and my flat tire!!

  2. TLS, Can you also make a post on how to get a street light that is out repaired. I don’t live in Lakewood, but travel through on my way to work. On my way to work the other day I counted at least 8 street lights that are out on County Line Road between Brook Road and Hope Chapel Rd, including one directly in front of the Hatzolah building. Lakewood has a high pedestrian traffic rate, especially on the Sabbath. I encourage anyone to call JCP&L to report any street light that is out. I called JCP&L at 1-800-662-3115 and reported the 8 street lights and have also done so in the past. Lighted street lights increase visibility and reduce crashes involving pedestrians. All JCP&L needs is the nearest street address, however if you can include a pole number that is also a help.

  3. the whole east 5th street!!!!!
    I stopped going down there because every time i went down there my GPS notified me that there was a crash!!! Thats how bad my car jumps!!!!!

  4. PAWNEE AND SEMINOLE have more potholes in them than actual road! It is not only a danger to drive but even to walk on Pawnee. The road was not paved in at least 20 years and the junky patches come apart in about a day. Residents call incessantly, taxes keep skyrocketing and the coffers are brimming with millions of our hard-earned money, but the township will not repave this road. It is a travesty and a saga that never ends.

  5. 8th street, between Monmouth and Lexington is terrible. 8th between Lexington and Clifton also pretty bad.

    Southeast corner of rt.88 and Cedarbridge/South Clifton. (Opposite side of rt. 88 from DB electronics, when turning from Cedarbridge)

  6. HOW ABOUT THE ENTIRE SOUTH LAKE (ROLLER COASTER), ALSO THROW IN THE ENTIRE HOPE CHAPEL FOR GOOD MEASURE!!! OH WAIT…CENTRAL AVENUE BETWEEN NEW CENTRAL AND HILLSIDE, ANYONE ELSE ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEMS THERE?

  7. the entire hope chapel; all of south lake aka roller coaster; central ave/new egypt between new central and hillside. is ot just the “suspension” in my car or did anyone else encounter these issues??
