Reader-submitted: As news that longtime NYU rabbi R’ Motty Katz is in critical condition from Coronavirus begins to spread, I present here a song of this tzaddik that can guide us as we storm the gates of heaven for the ultimate refuah.
Although Rabbi Katz recorded a collection of his compositions many years ago on a scarcely-distributed but widely-cherished album, “Bakashos,” his tune “Haposeach Yad” had never been professionally recorded before. Passed around by word-of-mouth for years, it had a prominent place at Kumzitzen across the country, but this soul-stirring niggun never found wide exposure. With the news that its venerable composer was in need of rachmei Shomayim, a Lakewood resident took out his guitar to share one of his favorite tunes from this talented composer, wishing to share this masterpiece with family and friends.
Upon hearing the song and being taken by its pure emotion and unparalleled beauty, I asked if I can spread the recording to a wider audience, so that others can learn it, and he graciously agreed.
Listen to the song and think of its meaning. Pass the song along to someone you know. Perhaps the zechus of this tefillah can make the difference in Shomayim.
Name added: Very serious condition

Thank you for sharing this soul-stirring song. I remember R” Motti from my days in Passaic when he released his album “Bakoshos”. He was a Rebbi in the cheder & also managed with his wife the local Mikveh. That was 25 years ago. May He have a complete refuah & continue inspiring others.
