Clarifying the free breakfast and lunch programs

Reader-submitted: As many of your readers are wondering who is eligible for the free breakfasts and lunches regardless of income, I decided to clarify the two separate program guidelines, based on my discussions with BOE Attorney Michael Inzelbuch, with Cory Goldfarb, General Manager Sodexo Lakewood School District, and as outlined in this USDA chart. 1. I believe that the John Patrick Complex is for Yeshiva Ketana . We received a message from Rabbi Lederer that it’s for children and siblings of YK students.

    • You are correct. John Patrick Complex is not an Option 2 site (see list below in comments), and is only for students and siblings of YK. Sorry about that mistake.

  2. It would be so wonderful if the politicians in Passaic would do the same thing. Unfortunately they come to us every 4 years wanting our vote . Granted they’re all Democrats and that seems to be the Democrat Party mantra, come to your constituents especially particular groups every 4 years so you could promise them the world and deliver nothing.

I’m not sure what else they’re really doing for us even if they’re really allegedly inzireh mentshin.

  3. This is completely incorrect form beginning to end. Not sure where you got your information as to which schools participate in which programs. Get your facts straight before posting things that are not true.

In addition, every child is eligible for ONE breakfast and ONE lunch per day – not one breakfast and lunch per school or one breakfast and lunch per site etc

    • It’s my understanding that both Chana and Yankel are correct.
Option 1: The 4 Public School Sites are for ANY Lakewood Students. The private sites have the sibling requirement.
Option 2 has no residency requirement.

  4. According to the doc anybody under 18 may qualify. the child need not be 1 years old. Athough if the child cant consume the food that will be an issue.

  5. @ Please Clarify is correct: John Patrick Complex is not part of the 2nd Program. Sorry about that.

I just received an updated list of sites under the 2nd Program (Summer Feeding Program). Feel free to make your own inquiries as to each site’s distribution schedule.

    Bnos Yaakov (Pine Park, M-Th)
    Tiferes Bais Yaakov
    Bnos Devorah
    Nachlas Bais Yaakov
    Lakewood Cheder
    Cheder Toras Zeev
    Tehilas Chaya Sara

Also, it goes without saying that eligible children are entitled to only one breakfast and one lunch per day. Going to multiple sites is not allowed.

  6. is each child eligible for one lunch from program 1 (from the school they attend) AND one lunch from program 2 per day (total 2 per day) or only one lunch in total per day?
