PHOTO: Second Temporary Verizon cell tower placed in Lakewood as infrastructure struggles to keep up

With tens of thousands of customers using cell towers in Lakewood, the infrastructure is failing, and one company is trying to keep up.

Verizon a couple weeks ago placed a tower on Clifton Avenue at 9th Street, though it was moved after complaints.

Today, a new temporary tower went up on Squankum Road to try keep service intact.

“As soon as schools closed, we knew we will have an issue,” Committeeman and longtime Askan Meir Lichtenstein told TLS. “Which is why we immediately got in contact with service providers to boost service around town.

Lichtenstein says he is working with the Mayor and other officials to try and expedite permanent solutions, but this is what the company was able to accommodate for the interim.

“They are looking to add another temporary tower at another location as well,” Lichtenstein said. A time frame and location for the tower have not yet been confirmed.

  1. This isn’t a temporary antenna, its’ a 100 foot monstrosity of radiation ofpermanent construction being crammed in our backyards, under the ’emergency’ umbrella,

This is in Whispering Woods, Whispering Pines, Brookhill and the Villas, neighborhoods.

  2. that is not a temporary tower. that is a permanent tower under 300 yards from houses must be removed . Pandemic is not an excuse to put in new towers so close to residential housing

  3. I live down the block and it didnt help me today. Besides, this definitely doesnt look temporary. This is a health hazard to all of us in the area. No company or township has a right to put our health in danger due to weak service. If anyone has a different school of thought, please call the township and offer your backyard instead of complaining that people are fanatics.

  4. I was wondering when the people would wake up to 5G.. yes that tower is permanent and they are installing 5g towers now all over the country under the cover of this “lockdown”.. do your own research 5G is very dangerous..

  5. Please stop and think before complaining. A couple of negative people and the tower on Yeshiva’s parking lot has been removed causing a)lot of people harm and placing people in danger – think about being unable to call doctor or hatzala in emergency B) monetary loss to those who are trying to work at home and cant due to no phone service
