Simon Wiesenthal Center: Jackson NJ Council President Calogero’s comments “height of irresponsibility”

The Simon Wiesenthal Center today released the following statement in response to Jackson NJ Council President Barry Calogero’s statement:

“Responsible elected leaders across the region have made a point to investigate allegations, many by anti- Semites, blaming Jews for spreading the Coronavirus by allegedly failing to comply with state and federal mandates.”

“In each case they reported, after touring those towns that the Jewish communal facilities were all in compliance. For Jackson NJ Council President Calogero to use his official public platform to incite fear and anti-Semitism at a time when we need unity to combat this dreadful pandemic is the height of irresponsibility. The Wiesenthal Center will continue to fight irresponsible scapegoating against our community and other targeted minorities, while demanding full compliance from Jewish communities across the nation and beyond.”

  1. G-d has dealt with bigots before, this is nothing new for him.
Stay home, pray and keep your relationship with g-d on the up and up and don’t worry about what some jealous, bored and attention seeking people do.
No human has any power to hurt us without g-ds will.
If there’s one thing I should work on more than anything else right now It is my relationship with the almighty. I’ve got a lot to work on in that area so I need to run…

  2. Calogero has embarrassed himself with his despicable pandering to antisemites. But more importantly, he has exposed the other politicians in NJ and the GOP of Ocean County, as politicians who have not condemned his despicable remarks.
Your silence is deafening. Don’t think we will forget. There are people who have had enough of this blatant bigotry. Do the right thing and condemn the medieval hate. If you won’t condemn the hatred spewed by Calogero, you are complicit in the hate-mongering taking place in NJ.

As Eli Weisel once said, “the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.”

Indifference is exactly what we are now seeing from the Politicians who remain silent.
