  1. I am really waiting to see what the Rabbanim will say about the Seminary Tuition that was paid to the tune of about $30,000 to the seminaries in Israel. The seminaries are pretty smart and grab all the tuition by December. So it has been paid up a few months ago. Should there not be any refunds for the lack of room, board, tiyulim and so much more for the last 3 months of the year??? The silence has been deafening. Not even an email received from most of the seminaries.

  2. I read someone else’s psak somewhere- can’t remember whose it was- that this cannot be considered oness since all of these couples who left for Pesach, many of them who left extra early due to the pandemic, knew VERY well that they most probably would not be able to come back any time soon. They could have stayed if they wanted too, and actually many did exactly for this exact reason. They didn’t want to risk it. And those who have stayed, are THRILLED that they made this decision! So again, to call it oness seems strange, especially since there are baalei dira here (myself included) who are living from paycheck to paycheck. For them such a psak could be financially devastating, especially since there are no renters to be found! Just like their current tenants can’t come into the country, neither can new potential renters!

    • Interestingly, I heard the opposite sevara. The couples/bachurim that left early before it was clear that they could not return are anusim now, but the ones who left after it was clear that they could not return are not anusim.

      Everyone should ask their posek/dayan.

  3. What is the landlord supposed to do with a MTG that needs to be paid?? Why shouldn’t renters pay the regular monthly rent? I understand the renters are an oinus, but why are the landlords responsible??
    Just trying to understand

      • I don’t know why this would be considered an oneis. The contract said they have to pay, so unless there was a clause that they only have to pay if they use the apartment, the renter has to honor the contract and pay up. That’s why I don’t think that when the rabonim say oneis they mean a real oneis, and this psak is really just a psharah.

  4. One of my kollel sons lives in an apartment house in Ramat Eshkol, mostly inhabited by Americans. He noted the numbers of couples leaving for Pesach, who were discomfited by the prospect of isolation in their Jerusalem apartments. Does anybody note the irony in this: reciting “L’shana Haba’a b’Yerushalayim” at the conclusion of their sedorim in chutz l’Aretz, when they (R”L) just fled from there?

    • It’s leshana haba be’Yerushalayim HA’BENUYAH with ALL of am Yisroel!!! People who left was because they didn’t want to be stuck in their tiny apartments with no end in sight and rather be with family. So hopefully when we all said leshana haba b’yerushalyim you had in mind WITH your whole family!!!
