   He will allow large gatherings of people ,who could otherwise overwhelm the police if told no, to do whatever they like. He will even praise them and use kid gloves, or in this case no gloves at all! This is because there is an underlying and real threat of violence, as we have seen.

   However, the rest of the peace loving citizens and business owners who are not a potential threat will be dealt with harshly. After all, they are law abiding citizens, so he will make them pay for any violations. As a bonus it’s desperately needed revenue for the state. He figures, what’s the worst that will happen? They won’t threaten violence.

   This does not mean that all protesters are rabble rousers. It means that he recognizes that there can be a mob mentality, as has been evidenced across the country, so in order to avoid that he will pacify them at all costs. Am I saying I doubt his integrity? Yes! Mr. dentures aka gov. Murphy is playing politics. He does not believe in the underlying cause for the protests. He just wants to avoid riots and looting. If he picks up votes at the same time all the better.

   Why he feels that since the rest of us don’t represent a potential threat of violence is any reason to act differently is beyond comprehension!
   Perhaps if he had looked at the underlying emotions and motivations behind other groups and gatherings such as funerals, weddings and graduations, he would have had a human response as opposed to a purely political and greedy response.

Although Murphy does not answer, the difference is that when freedom of assembly is connected with freedom of speech and freedom to petition, you have put together the most powerful force under our Constitutional scheme, the last resort in our system of checks and balances, a more effective check on power than three branches of government two-sovereign federalism. Sure personal freedom, habeas corpus and due process might be the most important rights to you and me, but freedom of speech is structurally necessary for the preservation of our republic.

    At any rate, the Supreme Court has long recognized the dual nature of the First Amendment speech. One the one hand, it is an individual right like all others, on the other hand, it is most important check on government power.

27. What he did was wrong and he certainly has no great answer to give. His numbers and dates seem to be irrational and not based on “science” as he says. It is totally hypocritical to march there and give summonses for those that attend a levaya.That being said,it does not mean that we should be more lax in social distancing because of this.
