Although day camps in New Jersey were given the green light to open July 6, much is still in limbo.
In response to the many inquiries, The Orthodox Day Camps Association of New Jersey today released the following statement to TLS:
Lakewood day camps are cautiously optimistic with regard to opening for the 2020 summer season.
As was widely reported, Governor Murphy announced last week that day camps will be permitted to open starting July 6, 2020.
However, it may still be a week or two before the safety rules and regulations are released. Once they are released, camps will review and make a final decision as to whether they can viably open this season.
Lakewood day camps are concerned for the safety of each and every child and staff member and will only open if they feel that they can provide an enjoyable and safe summer for their campers.
Local camps have been planning heavily for months and many have staff working since before Chanukah with a significant outlay of resources. Many camps have now reopened registration so planning can continue as we await final guidance from the state. The ODCA will continue to closely monitor the situation and share additional update as information becomes available.
Yup my girls camp announced already that they WILL be opening under some guidelines TBA soon! This is the best piece of news so far my kids need camp so badly and I need it even more lol!!!!!!!!
It’s starting a week too late!!! I hope the camps will reimburse!!
Yes. Day camps are not a problem at all, as long as you call it a protest in memory of George Floyd!!!!
we have permission to open camp BH, but the downfall can be financial ruin for camps, One person get sick R”L camp is OVER!! and for that camp it could be the END !! we need to find something that the kids will enjoy, get out and play . without putting kids at risk!!
kids at risk? Children are not at risk for Corona. Do your research.
Mimi, maybe you should do your research. There have been many kids hospitalized with the inflammatory disease that is related to COVID19. So Naftoli is correct.
There is no evidence that the inflammatory disease is related to COVID-19. Not all the children with the disease tested positive. Kawasaki is a disease that exists every year. The current number of cases is similar to the number every year. It is a disease that spikes in the beginning of spring. The current risk for the disease is low and if we are concerned with the current risk we could likely stay locked down for over a year.
Can someone tell me how the kids will go to camp by car or school bus
Amazing! Finally some good news in a long time! The kids need this structure!
re. above poster, it is true that one kid or counselor getting sick can end up causing the camp to have to shut down, so maybe we need to have kids and counselors wearing masks. They are selling cute masks , personalized, at frum stores or by order. I saw adorable ones on Double Header (Brooklyn) website. Maybe if we make it cute for the kids they will embrace it. Camps could provide it as part of the cost and can get their logo or camp name on it, or the kids names. Just an idea, and no I dont’ work for and am not related to anyone from that business.
I don’t think they’re be bussing because you can’t social distance and the bus company won’t be able to afford to only around 15 to 20 kids per bus because to properly social distance that’s only 1 kid per seat unless it’s a sibling
There us no way kids can sit a whole day with masks. I feel I cant breathe after wearing a mask for 20 minutes and you want kids to spend a whole day doing activities and swimming with a mask on . You will need full time Hatzolah on call at every day camp for kids fainting from lack of oxygen.
Camp 2020 – no bussing – no carpool temp taken when u arrive and before lunch . All activities will be outside no more than 7 (2 counselors) to a bunk. Only food made on site will be allowed ( except for people who have alleges) No swimming and masked on – camp is only for 3-4 weeks . Welcome to the New normal 2020 camp season !!!
