Camp Machane Yehuda Director: There’s still hope for NY camps

Rabbi Yehuda Yosef Podolsky: It has been falsely reported that Governor Cuomo will announce that he’s not allowing sleep-away camps in New York to open this summer. It needs to be clarified this is based on a rumor only, and there’s still some hope.

If he does plan on announcing that he’s not allowing camps, why didn’t he just announce that by now?! I do believe that by putting out such assumptions, it will have a negative effect on the Governor. It’s fair to say that at this point it’s 50/50 as to whether or not camps will be allowed to open. We believe that the Governor will make his final decision this Monday, June 15.

It’s important to note, that much hishtadlus was put into making camp this summer a reality. At this point, we must go with what us Yidden believe: “Afilu cherev chadah munachas al tzavoro shel adom, al yisyayaish min harachamim.” All that is left for us to do at this point is daven that camp should be allowed to open with reasonable guidelines.

I do believe that our children need camp this summer, more than ever. For this reason, I am considering several options to help give our children a safe, structured and productive summer.

Stay safe and positive.

  1. Daven that camps should open ?? Are you serious ? Will it be safe ? I for one hope they don’t open, that’s just my humble opinion. I don’t believe especially with the MIS-C that some children got R”L that it’s a good idea that we might come to regret. Yes I understand that some people’s Parnassah is at stake, but lives are more important
