FIRST REPORT: Judge Overrides Jackson Officials, Approves Development, Strips Jackson Of Oversight Powers | G. Sonnenfeld

Recently, a state court ordered Jackson Township to approve the proposed Jackson Parke development, which will consist of 1,100 homes. The Township approved it, but threw in a bunch of conditions – including a soil ordinance that they are being sued over – that developers said would hamper their efforts. Now, a judge is taking action against Jackson Township.

Multiple sources have confirmed to TLS that in a court phone conference regarding the application for the Jackson Parke development, Superior Court Judge Mark Troncone overrode the Planning Board and unilaterally approved the Jackson Parke development without any preconditions. The development is now officially approved, and no further approval is required from Jackson Township officials.

Additionally, Judge Troncone is appointing, at Township expense, a court monitor who will oversee all new affordable housing applications from start to finish, including permitting.

The news comes as a major blow to Jackson Township officials already beleaguered by lawsuits over alleged discriminatory tactics. The judge’s ruling essentially revokes power from township officials on decisions relating to approving new affordable housing projects.

Judge Troncone is apparently sick and tired of Jackson’s games, too. Not only that, the judge clearly believes that Jackson Township officials are incapable of following the rules, and need a babysitter to ensure their compliance. It’s a sad state of affairs in Jackson Township, NJ.

  1. The Township of Jackson should be dissolved altogether. The shenanigans that go on there are beyond belief. Each surrounding Township should equally take over a portion, and life will return to normal.

  2. This is why after getting on the planning board I resigned. The township municipal everything is in need of disillusion and further more you can blame the towns planning board but they were just going along with what the attorney told them. Even though there was clear opposition during the “executive” meeting those were overturned and quashed by the attorney. There is no reason for any planning or zoning in Jackson since everyone does what they want and if they don’t get their way… just sue and get what they want.

  3. Although we all agree that there is plenty of anti-semitism in Jackson we must remember that for people who have lived there for a long time, starting to build a large amount of duplexes all over is taking away some format of their quiet, suburban peace. I live in Lakewood and my love of my fellow yidden makes me happy that they were able to build affordable housing; however, driving and going places has become extremely difficult and overcrowding makes things a bit difficult. We must remember to act respectfully and show longtimers that we know how to behave and drive properly. A Kiddush Hashem is the way to go!

  4. Voting in the VAAD? What are you talking about? This is an Agudah ptoject, through and through. Kudos to Rabbi Avi Schnall, who mamish has his fingers on the pulse of the frum kehillah’s needs!

  5. he closed the yeshivas and that is hurting families and children and disrupting communities i pity those attending public schools because they have a leadership which is ignoring the problem but i am sure it is affecting them too if only they would understand that our advocacy would help them too they would all go out and protest to end the school closure regime in trenton

  6. As a frum family living in Jackson, although I feel Jackson is being discriminatory towards the Orthodox Jews, the investors are going to destroy another beautiful town and make it another traffic jam.
It’s just as wrong as the discrimination coming from Jackson Township.
The average frum family wants the investors to keep out of Jackson as well.

      • Agree – we moved to Jackson after 21 years in Lakewood due to the overdevelopment etc. And now an investor bought the property next door and made it into an extended family rental(if you know what I mean) so he could get triple the rent to support his family) ruining our quality of life. (5-6 cars, backyard parties, noise, and fear). Investors – no double standard – if you wouldn’t want it next to you don’t push it on us. And know that parnasah is from Hashem and as my Rav, “You won’t see brocha from $ earned being m’tzarer others. Do we have to move again?

  7. It disturbs me that development is being made into a religious right. When in fact it’s all about money for the developers. Let’s save the big guns for real religious issues.
