JUST IN: Change in location for protest in Lakewood; Large law enforcement presence planned [UPDATED]

TLS has learned that there has been a change in location for this weekend’s protest in Lakewood, honoring the memory of George Floyd.

Instead of marching from the Lakewood Middle School, the group will meet at Clifton Avenue Grade School, and march to Red Square.

Mayor Coles tells TLS there will be a large law enforcement presence at the march, as well as in the downtown area ensuring stores are kept safe.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office will be sending in officers to assist as well.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep everyone safe,” Mayor Coles said.

UPDATE: The following message from the protest organizer was sent to Michael Inzelbuch:

“Dear Mr I, after speaking with Lt. Leroy Marshall, Dr. Rush, and yourself I would like to have the march start at the former little league field (9th & Clifton) which has been converted to an parking lot. We will meet there at 1pm on Saturday and from there we will march to town hall. There will be no violence. We are paying respects, bringing peace, & sending a powerful message. Thank you to you and Lakewood B.O.E, Lt. Leroy Marshall and the LPD, and Dr Rush for your continued support throughout this process.”

  1. Why would they let this?! For who, for what? Just ups the risks of these hoodlums burning this peaceful city to the ground!!! Let them stick to the original plan by the school NOT near any stores any potential looting possibilities!

    • Here’s a new handle instead of Simplicity: Simpleton or Simpleminded or maybe Simply Paranoid. I trust the plans of the Mayor, the County, and Lakewood’s finest. Try being a Simple Yid. It will become you, trust me.

      • hey moron!! did the rest of this countrys’ security, police, army, etc. plan to allow looting, burning, attacking police, etc.? they were overwhelmed by thousands of savages! what makes you think that can’t happen here????

  2. how’s this any better???
    Its still downtown

At least they realized that hope alone won’t protect the town and they need a police presence… but not nearly enough… why not move to the stadium… wht does it always have to be a school???

  3. FYI, as a frum jew in another large frum community, we had a protest yesterday with no issue B”H at all. The news is scaring us into thinking that all protests look like that its simply false. Rioting and looting has occurred but its מיעוט שאינו מצוי. Take a breath and have some אמונה.

  4. How perfectly fitting: the people seeking to tear down the country are marching to reach Red Square. Kruschev would be so proud.

  5. The only peaceful protest I heard about was with gun wielding locals lining the streets. Good people with guns protect from bad people with or without guns. No liberal will admit that.

  6. Mincha Mariv Protest in Town Square
Now that it has been established that large gatherings are permitted and the Mayor has stated publicly that no permit is needed to gather in the Town Square you are cordially invited to attend a outdoor Mincha Mariv tomorrow night Thursday June 4th at 8:10 PM in the Town Square
    Spread the word.

  7. “Red Square” is the Plaza on Clifton Ave North between 4th and 5th St.
It gets it’s name from it’s Red Paging Stones.

  8. well today black person told me to stay home because we are smashing everything in sight this is not good idea to have this

  9. So let me get this straight…You can’t hold a Memorial Day parade because of Corona but if you ask politely to hold a protest march, you can? Memorial Day was not even 2 weeks ago! I’m sorry, but this country is so messed up!

  10. These protests are a joke. There is zero evidence for systemic racism in America. One dirty cop does not reflect on the police force in general. Love respect and gratitude for the police.

  11. its not the country messed up, its your liberal governor on top , that we were told to vote for! he refuses to let me have 40 people in my 1 acre yard for my kids bar mitzva, but you can have 10,000 people smashed together in a protest stopping traffic on public property!!

  12. dont you guys understand, the liberals hope the country burns down, and economy destroyed, so trump looks bad with a bad economy

  13. Everyone grow up.
In this country we have a right to protest. And it may be a double standard, but if you show empathy to the cause that wouldnt matter. And even if yu dont think George Floyds death was racially motivated, you can still show support for the ideal, for the pain, and have that conversation at an appropriate time.
As for the violence rumors, there HAVE been many peacful protests, and theres no real reason to assume that this one will not be. As far as the “unexpected”? Thats what the cops are there for.
    So cut it out.

    • Sir, with all due respect, you have obviously not been following the news as of late. In exactly which location in the country have police actually stopped any looting and vandalism? Please name at least one.

  14. Hey mr floyd is not resting a peace, burning down cities and killing ppl does nothing for his honor, only embarrasment and will just scare the police more evry time a similar looking man gets arrested

  15. No one is saying they don’t have a right to protest. They are calling out the hypocrisy coming from our elected leaders. When it comes to having small gatherings be it for prayers or celebrations, we’ve been told that it’s forbidden and dangerous. Yet all of a sudden there does not seem to be any concern for public health or the violations of the public gatherings. So which is it?

  16. Most of these (moderated) just want to have fun and loot and steal people’s hard-earned money and have absolutely no clue what happened to George Floyd, nor do they care. For those who are ignorant of history, this has been going on for at least 60 years. The rabble is the same and the results are the same. The event in Minneapolis has no connection to our town. Shame on the officials for allowing this meaningless, but potentially destructive, event.

  17. Looting hasn’t been stopped not because the police weren’t aware. They were and are well aware and prepared but still are overwhelmed even with a 36000 officer police force in NYC. their hands are tied and are afraid to be locked up for life by the liberal justice system. There has been fatal shootings of cops already this week. If the cops will shoot back with no questions or aggressively take down any trouble makers then there’s a possible chance this can be contained. Otherwise good luck.
