BREAKING: Governor Murphy Signs Executive Order Extending Public Health Emergency in New Jersey

Governor Phil Murphy today signed an Executive Order, extending the Public Health Emergency that was declared on March 9, 2020, which was previously extended on April 7, May 6, and June 4.

Under the Emergency Health Powers Act, a declared public health emergency expires after 30 days unless renewed.

“As the restart and recovery process goes on, ensuring access to critical resources is very important,” said Governor Murphy. “Extending the Public Health Emergency means that we will still be able to utilize needed resources during COVID-19 pandemic, while continuing to responsibly reopen more sectors of our economy.”

Executive Order No. 162 extends all Executive Orders issued under the Governor’s authority under the Emergency Health Powers Act. It also extends all actions taken by any Executive Branch departments and agencies in response to the Public Health Emergency presented by the COVID-19 outbreak.

  1. this man will hold on to the state of emergency forever!

    why dont the citizens say?

hey Mr Governor, you hold onto your state of emergency ,fine
we pay NO TAXES during state of emergencies!!

  2. He will resist in any way he can, to giving up his new found power over his subjects.

Time to thank him for destroying so many lives, vote him out next election.

  3. Just because we have almost no cases in Lakewood, does not mean this emergency is over. Look at what’s happening all over the country. Those people will be coming to NJ and yes, even to Lakewood. We already have a few cases here in Lakewood from Florida. All the commenters above have been listening to their radio and podcast talking heads, but haven’t been using their own heads. We are opening slowly but surely and that’s the way to go, without forgetting that this is still an emergency situation. Have we forgotten our very sick and dead already?

    • ‘Get it over with’ – you are one hundred percent right except for one little piece of information. There is absolutely no plan to combat the virus, and if there is one, Murphy certainly isn’t the one who has it. In that case continuing to declare a state of emergency with no time plan, treatment plan, or steps to emerge is reckless. It creates a multiplied tragedy. Now we have a virus + finacial ruin + emotional instability + lapses in education and child development. As we have seen all over the world. The only way out is to let the virus spread rachmana litzlan. Look at Israel – they cannot get out of it because too many ppl are still vulnerable to it. Argentina has some of the strictest distancing laws and the virus is still rampant there. It’s a biological compound that is microscopic and cannot be controlled. But why won’t our leaders start allowing us to control the things we still can. May Hashem protect us all.

  4. This is not a power grab by Murphy — of whom I am no fan. This is merely procedural to make it easier to react and mobilize aid should there be a flair up in NJ.

It is getting really bad in the US outside of the tri-state area. Even the governor of Texas just mandated masks be worn at all times and there to be no more than 10 congregating outdoors or indoors at a time. This was the same governor that swore he never would shut down or mandate masks. Florida recorded 10,000 new cases today. The reporting is that these are young people that are infected but it takes 14 days for the spread to be realized. So we won’t know how bad the older citizens in the hot spot states will be impacted for another week or two.

The problem is quite apparent when one realizes that there is a real and significant likelihood that these states will re-infect NJ and NY. So, it is better to be safe and extend the power than to have to waste time to have to declare it once more if there is a resurgence here over the summer. Nearly everything is open now in NJ so Murphy isn’t trying to keep everything shut down.

  5. There may be new cases but you haven’t heard of any deaths. Our bodies built up an immune to it. The number of cases is completely irrelevant; what matters at this point is deaths which there haven’t been any. This is a liberal power grad and anti Trump agenda. The day after the election this whole will somehow be forgotten.

    • @ Louie, it’s not only the deaths r”l that matter. People who had the virus are dealing with very many long term and possibly permanent problems. Yes, most don’t show symptoms, but for those that do, it is more than unpleasant at the time of the illness and for long afterwards. The anti Trump agenda is just a conspiracy theory that Rush, Hannity et al are trying to spread. The virus is serious business! Yes, the Dems dislike Trump, but they are not making COVID-19 policy based on that.

  6. If you happen to breath in the virus bug you will test positive. However, your body might not react and you will not get the virus. BUT having been tested as positive, you are now listed as a new case. Are the states REDUCING the number of cases by the number that have gotten well? Are the states REDUCING the number of cases by the number of those who didn’t get the virus?
