Governor Murphy Adds 10 More States To Travel Advisory

Governor Murphy today advised individuals traveling to New Jersey from additional states with significant community spread of COVID-19 to quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state. The updated advisory includes 10 additional states – Alaska, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Virginia, and Washington – with Minnesota removed from the list.

The travel advisory applies to any person arriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a state with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.

As of Tuesday, July 21, there are currently 31 states total that meet the criteria stated above: Alaska; Alabama; Arkansas; Arizona; California; Delaware; Florida; Georgia; Iowa; Idaho; Indiana; Kansas; Louisiana; Maryland; Missouri; Mississippi; Montana; North Carolina; North Dakota; Nebraska; New Mexico; Nevada; Ohio; Oklahoma; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Utah; Virginia; Washington; and Wisconsin.

“It is critically important that all New Jerseyans remain committed to beating COVID-19 by remaining vigilant and continuing our collective efforts to reduce new cases and the rate of transmission throughout the state,” said Governor Murphy. “In order to prevent additional outbreaks across New Jersey and continue with our responsible restart and recovery process, I strongly encourage all individuals arriving from these hotspot states to proactively get a COVID-19 test and self-quarantine.”

Travelers and those residents who are returning from impacted states should self-quarantine at their home, hotel, or other temporary lodging. Individuals should leave the place of self-quarantine only to seek medical care/treatment or to obtain food and other essential items.

It is expected that individuals will follow the public health advisory to self-quarantine.

  1. Governor thank you for saving so many lives. Now, can there be some way that teachers can take leave of absence without losing their jobs, tenure, pension and insurance after decades of service, particularly in those districts in which schools will be filled to capacity because local leaders will not consider an AB schedule to stagger the number of kids in the building each day?

Many of us do not want some of us to die just so the kids can be packed in the building and their parents can go to work.

    • Teacher- How many people do you know that were either hospitalized or dies from COVID since the beginning of May. I would say that from every one that I spoke to – not a single individual knows a single individual that has been hospitalized in almost two months from this. This is not to take anything away from how bad it was in march or April – just to say that the facts on the ground bear out that this is well below a level now that warrants tremendous efforts to mitigate risk. BTW almost a million people die each year from heart disease in the United states -yet no one has taken any extreme measures to ban may food items that could potentially save 100’s of thousands of life each year. I would say based on the facts that we know this is far greater an issue to work on at this time. Almost all deaths right now from COVID in the US are either people who were residually sick from April or people with other conditions that the hospital swabbed them and called it COVID so that they could get more money from the government. If anyone does know people who indeed have become deathly ill from COVID since may please respond to educate me and I will be happy to change my opinion but in the meantime all health care providers I have spoken with have corroborated what I have presented.

      • Did people stop dying from other illnesses? By golly, that is a relief. So now we do not have to worry anything else. All the refrigerator morgues you see now in Florida, Texas and Arizona are from the old days when people used to die from other diseases. I am so happy that the number of deaths in America has not gone up because the food can no longer be poisoned an someone die (did someone die from food poisoning lately?).

Wow! So many people are running to the government for that free Covid money. The government has been shown so much leadership in protecting breaking the siege. What a wonderful government we have. Problem is that I just could not get myself to drink that Clorox.

You are right. The number of people who died from Covid is likely wrong. There are so many people who died from strokes and clotting brought on by Covid but not listed as cause of death. Why don’t you turn on the network news and see for yourself what’s happening. The nation is under siege.

  2. @Keith, yes, I do know someone from our community who was seriously ill with COVID-19 in the last few weeks & had to be hospitalized. People are not putting up banners announcing their illness. If I know 1 person, who btw, was careful to take precautions for COVID-19, I imagine there are more. Additionally, even if someone is asymptomatic, but tests positive, he/she can still be a carrier who can infect someone else who can get seriously ill. It’s quite insensitive to mock someone who is afraid to get exposed.

  3. NJ has the second most total deaths and the highest death rate per million, next door in the state with the highest total deaths and second highest death rate the governor just want to Georgia but wont quarantine when he gets back because only regular people can spread the virus and only when they aren’t at a Democrat condoned protest.

  4. @keith
Yes I do know people who have gotten sick and been hospitalized in May and June. I know people who died in May and people who died in June of Covid. I know people who died in May June and July not of covid but shoots we didn’t realize at my hospital that there was so much money to be made if they had actually died of covid. I’m sure the hospital will be happy to falsify their records that state stroke cancer among others and write covid so they can make those big bucks you obviously have insider info on. Will let my manager know ASAP. What’s your contact info in case she has questions regarding the process, how to claim the money etc?

    • Question was whether the people were hospitalized in May or June from Covid or did they get it prior and die in May or June. I am talking about new cases- people that did not have it back then and now got it and died. Please carefully answer that question. I personally know health care providers who were asked to write COVID because the persons blood test happened to show it. So far from the responses there doesn’t seem to be that many yet. I’ll bet if I asked the same exact question about other diseases there would be many more people responding which leads me to believe the level of risk is much higher for those right now and perhaps those should be focused on. Please keep the answers coming but be very specific on exactly what happened. Remember the fact that it was very bad in the past does not necessarily mean it is now.

  5. @Teacher, NY had more nursing home deaths than total deaths in any Republican run state. The only ones who mentioned drinking Clorox were the democrats and their fake news media shills.

  6. I don’t understand why people who have travelled from the corona hotspots are “encouraged” to quarantine. It should be a law. Nobody is going to quarantine voluntarily nobody cares about anybody else, only themselves unfortunately
