Governor Murphy Warns Of Rising Covid-19 Transmission Rate In New Jersey

At his daily press conference on Monday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy sounded the alarm over rising transmission rates of Covid-19 in New Jersey.

The governor announced that the rate of transmission – the rate at which Covid-19 spreads from one person to another – in New Jersey has exceeded 1.0 for the first time in ten weeks. For every new coronavirus case in the state, health experts say that it is leading to at least one more new case in New Jersey.

The governor has long said that a transmission rate under 1.0 is necessary for the state’s reopening plan to continue unabated.

Murphy said that they have identified several new hotspots in Hoboken and North Jersey that are directly related to people who traveled out of state and brought the virus back with them.

“We need to be smarter and work harder,” Murphy said. “Our 14-day self-quarantine advisory for those who have come through a known Covid-19 hotspot is in place to prevent flareups like the ones we’re seeing now.”

The governor said that he will put certain restrictions that have since been lifted back into place if the numbers continue to go in the wrong direction.

“I do not want to have to hit another pause on our restart because a small number of New Jerseyans are being irresponsible and spreading Covid-19 while the rest of us continue to work hard to stop it,” Murphy said. “We all need to wear face coverings – even on a hot day like today. Covid-19 doesn’t care about the weather – it only cares about finding another person to infect.”

As of Sunday, New Jersey had 861 hospitalized Covid-19 patients, 187 patients in critical or intensive care, and 152 ventilators were in use. All three of those numbers had decreased over the weekend.

  1. What a hypocrite! If COVID doesn’t care if it’s hot outside then it also doesn’t care if you’re ‘protesting’ for a ‘righteous’ cause. why should I take his pronouncements seriously?

    • @ Abe Lincoln: Don’t be right. Be smart.

Who cares whether he made the right decision by allowing the protests? What counts is you and I making the right decisions to protect our health.

The numbers are going up let’s mask and keep distances so that our community doesn’t get asffected like Eretz Yisrael.

      • I agree that we should be smart. However, I’m not fully convinced that masks really do anything. The jury is still out as to their effectiveness.

        • BTW he jury is out as to the effectiveness of masks. Check out Advisory, The Lancet and more. Of course you’ll find a few scientists doubting any study, but dozens of observational studies as of late have confirmed their effectiveness.

Unfortunately we’re not out of the woods in Lakewood, wether we like it or not. Chemed has confirmed multiple times that we’re still far from herd immunity. Let’s be smart about it.

  2. Fake news. The numbers in NJ continue to decrease on a 7 day rolling average. The virus cannot be manipulated by Govenor Murphy’s spin, let the facts speak for themselves.
Additionally, the number of critically ill patients Continues to decline steeply as well not just in NJ but around the country.
NJ Arguably was the hardest hit region in the world with close to 2,000 deaths per one million residents. For comparison, Italy had 600 deaths per one million and therefore we may be much closer to herd immunity than other states. Herd immunity may be real, Sweden’s cases are next to zero because they never closed and let the virus ride Its course and they may be close to herd immunity as well. So it’s incorrect to compare to Israel who had very little cases throughout the pandemic compared to NJ.
Additionally, there is real science that both being out in the heat and being outdoors in general either kills or greatly minimizes the virus.
Finally, the virus is far leas deadly than it was several months ago, with many proven therapeutic treatments being used.

  3. The Governors concern is that he is about to lose power, because the virus is subsiding and he won’t have his power over us.
His ego is guiding he judgement.

Vote Republican to end this madness.

  4. Mr Murphy,

Perhaps it has to do with protest that YOU participated in?

Of course not. Not a chance.

Elect a clown expect a circus.
