Will Trump Drop Out? – As numerous national and battleground state polls continue to show President Trump trailing presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden by a wide margin, some are wondering whether the president will stick it out through the election. A Fox News correspondent said that he was told by a GOP operative that it’s possible the president will drop out of the race if his poll numbers don’t recover. Democratic strategist James Carville said he believes there is a “significant chance” Trump will drop out of the race if his standing doesn’t improve. Carville added that he thinks Senate Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republican Congressional leaders will disavow the president if he doesn’t turn things around by Labor Day, in order to help them retain control of the Senate.

Coronavirus Out Of Control – The Covid-19 pandemic, which appeared to be under control after devastating the tristate area, is now wreaking havoc in numerous states across the US, especially ones where governors reopened too quickly. At least 16 states across the US are now seeing a resurgence of the virus, with states like Florida and Texas having their highest numbers of new infections. The US has set near-daily records in the number of new Covid-19 cases in the country this week, and Dr. Anthony Fauci of the White House Coronavirus Task Force is warning that things can get much worse if people refuse to socially distance and wear face masks.

Russian Bounty Scandal Roils – Allegations that President Trump ignored intelligence that suggested Russia paid Taliban fighters in Afghanistan to kill US troops rocked Washington this week. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that neither President Trump nor Vice President Pence was briefed on the matter, and Trump tweeted on Wednesday that the story was a “hoax.” However, multiple news outlets report that the story was included in the Presidential Daily Brief, which the president is known to often not read. The question of why no action was taken against Russia in response to the intelligence continues to be a mystery.

Trump Tells Biden To Take Cognitive Test – Amid speculation about the mental health of both major party candidates in the 2020 election, President Trump has challenged Joe Biden to take a cognitive test to prove that he is not in mental decline and is fit to serve in office. “He cannot pass the test I “aced”. He should give it a try!!!” Trump wrote on Twitter. Right-wing pundits have brought up Biden’s many gaffes, misspoken words, and apparent forgetfulness as proof that the former Vice President doesn’t have the mental capacity to serve in the nation’s highest office. Democrats have seized on Trump’s own rambling and several instances in which the president apparently had trouble lifting a glass of water to his mouth and walked cautiously down a ramp as proof that there’s something wrong with him. Democrats now say that President Trump should release his own long-form medical records to prove that he is able to carry out his duties.

Huge Job Numbers Released – The US Bureau of Labor Statistics released jobs numbers for the month of June that the United States in a V-shaped rebound from the economic crisis caused by Covid-19. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 4.8 million in June alone, and the unemployment rate fell to 11.1%, crushing the projected 2.9 million increase in jobs, and a 12.4% unemployment rate. Speaking at the White House, President Trump said that the numbers were historic. “Today’s announcement proves that our economy is roaring back. It’s coming back extremely strongly,” the president said.
