The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Lakewood and surrounding areas until further notice, as a severe weather system moves up the East Coast. A flash flood watch has also been issued. The storm is expected to reach Lakewood Friday morning, and is expected to continue until the storm moves out of our area around 8 PM Friday night.
Tropical Storm Fay, which formed off the coast of North Carolina, is likely to bring heavy rains, wind gusts, and poor visibility to Lakewood as the storm barrels through. An isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out with such weather systems.
Meteorologists are currently forecasting up to 4 inches of rainfall in Lakewood, and wind gusts up to 45 mph. With rain coming down in torrents, street flooding is likely.
Prior to the storm’s arrival, Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer is advising residents to take all necessary precautions to keep themselves and their property safe. “The National Weather Service has advised that we may be receiving a tropical weather storm that will bring high winds and heavy rain,” Chief Meyer told TLS. “Areas most prone to flooding will most likely be underwater and winds and rain can cause trees and branches to fall. Please secure loose patio furniture and belongings and plan to ride out the storm indoors. Please have flashlights and candles ready in the event of power outages. In the event that you need assistance, please call the police department, LCSW, or Chaveirim.”
Tropical Storm Fay is the sixth tropical storm of the season and is expected to make its way up to New England before dying out.
NEW: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, & Cape May Counties through tomorrow, as #TropicalStormFay heads toward NJ.

Realistically don’t expect more that leaves to rustle. Not much wind at all as it’s barely a tropical storm. Flooding is more of a risk as someone will get torrential rains of up to 4 inches or more but it’s not clear yet if the heaviest rains come over our area, or to our west.
What time is this storm supposed to start?
@Drenched It should hit Lakewood starting any time between 3am and 6 am and will last until early Sunday.
It’s gotten to the point that when Murphy says theres gonna be a storm, I expect a drizzle.
And I agree with “Ari”; where gonna get a leaf rustle and that’s it.
I just hope when the leaf does “rustle” there are plenty of pictures of it so we can all see the effects of the major storm.
Maybe Murphy should do an executive order to require rain coats when outside to keep us all safe.
its 8 AM. Do you know where your storm is ?
