BREAKING ‪UPDATE: JCP&L says they expect to restore power to the majority of their customers by August 11

If you are still out of power from Tropical Storm Isaias, you might remain out of power for a while more.

JCP&L has reportedly told Lakewood residents that they can expect their electricity to be restored by 11:30 PM… on August 11th.

Information on the JCP&L website reflects those reports as well.

Tropical Storm Isaias brought with it high winds that wrought significant damage to existing utility infrastructure. JCP&L says they have crews working around the clock to restore power to all homes.

  1. just Can’t wait for the exciting site to see what my kitchen will look like when I return from my 2 week vacation all that raw meat sitting in my stifling freezer dripping onto to my kitchen floor

    • Are you kidding? I hope you are! Get someone to go to your house QUICKLY and empty everything. It happened to me once and the smell was atrocious and all the food was totally infested…I’ll stop right here.

  2. Unacceptable!!

And then they will be heroes for getting it repaired a day early.

Something must be done to assure this doesn’t happen again.

We don’t live in a third world camera.

  3. BOE ESY still doesn’t have power and ESY is canceled for a second day in a row. Power won’t be restored till 11:30 PM on Aug 11, and the last day of ESY is the 12th. So all of the students in BOE ESY will be lacking mandated services for am entire week, and they’ll continue be without services for several weeks on end since the district starts their school year late and at the end of the week, then it’s conveniently Labor Day and they have off AGAIN! The ESY program will be a week shorter and the kids are getting less services. I know many NJ districts didn’t even open, but lakewood district seemed to pride itself on being open for in person services and making it happen to service other kids while attempting to sue other less fortunate districts for not following their lead.
Somehow the BOE pulled it together quite quickly early in the natural disaster of the Covid pandemic to get ahold of thousands of laptops. So why can’t they come up with some generators now? SCHI has their electricity up and running and didn’t miss a day!

  4. We are extending the emergency from the 11th for another 30 days or until we have a vaccine. Sounds familiar? Welcome to third worl. Leshana Haba b…

  5. I hope that they are not serious!!

If this is true, we must get together and sue the electric company, I am willing to pay part of the attorney’s fees.

The electric company must be held responsible for this lack of service!!!

    To the Lakewood scoop.

Please set up an email address that people can get together and hire a big attorney to go after the electric company.

  6. Shouldn’t they be prioritizing the 55 and over communities? Besides for many needing power for medical equipment I personally know of a few elderly people who still haven’t left their homes being that they are higher risk for the virus. Many of these same people aren’t even aware or know how to report outages so they will be put as non priority for JCP&L – I.E. When looking at the outage map I see very few people reporting outages for A Country Place while I know that they don’t have power.

Our elderly can’t always speak up for themselves. We need to speak for them!

  7. While I feel bad for you that you are missing the extra services and no one wants students to fall behind, sometimes things are out of our (or their) control. The power outage is not something that could be controlled or anticipated.

The fact that Schi is open is an amazing comparison. Do you know why they are open???? Because they didn’t lose power in the first place….

  8. It is true we must protest this is crazy, no lights / no air conditioning/no fridge / no freezer/ no washing machine / a lot of frozen food meat chicken will all be waisted, what about those people who work from home – this is ridiculous and must be stoped !!!!

  9. If you look at the JCP&L website they say for all the counties the date is the 11th. Its not just lkwd its all over, which either means that they are saying that by the 11th you will have power but possibly before, or there is a major thing that has to be fixed which is affecting all the counties they serve.

  10. It’s really funny that people think they can do anything about this. The second the power is turned on everyone will forget this ever happened.

  11. I join to sue JCPL They just know how to charge inflated prices , but when it comes to service they stink beyond words,.. We have to get rid of these crooks and get a new energy supplier……..BO REASOB ON EARTH WHY IT SHOULD RAKE 2 WEEKS FOR RESTORATION OF SERVICES??????????

  12. File complaint with the bpu. It’s the only language they understand. Otherwise it’s all about prolonging so they can collect storm disaster funds (they hay to make it look and feel like a disaster) much like pandemic funding…

  13. All you sue happy people have no case this was a act of nature the electric company didn’t cause . They are working 24/7 but Lakewood isn’t there only trouble..Maybe Daven harder ..

  14. There is a very informative article on NJ.com about this.
The issue is not the power companies or the customer service. The entire state got hit and it makes sense that it can take a while to clear all the trees and repair the electricity. The world is so much larger than Lakewood and we need to think beyond ourselves.
According to NJ.com, the issue is the entire infrastructure in New Jersey and not each electric company. (we are not talking about putting wires underground like in NY. NY has the underground infrastructure to put everything underground. A suburban state like new jersey doesn’t. We are talking about the entire power grid which as currently designed is way too susceptible to individual failures)The state is well aware of this, but nobody is willing to invest. Our Deal Leader Governor Knucklehead is way too focused on each Covid case to realize how dangerous it is to seniors and other compromised people to live without electricity for weeks each summer. I guess he hasn’t reviewed that science or data yet.

  15. Please report your outage even if your neighbor already has reported. The JCPL outage website explicitly says the more people that call the more the automated system gets triggered to see a pattern and then a dispatcher sends technicians to find the problem.

  16. I just feel that the electric company should give more information.
Communication is important to the consumer. I feel that August 11 is a date given to give them time to repair problem. It also would help if everyone that is affected would report it to JCP&L

  17. it may help to call them every few minutes, the more you nudge them the more they’ll take it seriously . Be respectful but firm. I called 6 times starting at 5:30 AM and BH we now have power (Belz shlav gimmel)

    • what number did you call to speak to live person? the 2 numbers I have are automated responses saying that we are already in the system?

      • call 888-544-4877 and do NOT put in your phone # and when the system asks for an account # say I don’t have and then you’ll be routed to a live rep

  18. First of all, I have power, never lost it. My area has underground utilities. And all of you who are whining, didn’t you learn anything from hurricane Sandy? Fallen trees blanketed Rt 88 and it took weeks to clear the roads and get power on. So did you go out and buy a generator or power inverter so you have enough power to run your refrigerator or a few lights for a week? A power inverter costs about $50 and hooks up to your car battery but they are all sold out now. No you just want to sue somebody. So much for being self sufficient.

    • few things… 1. fallen trees is not the full answer as ACP has underground wiring and no power still. 2. of course we learned from hurricane sandy – a. we now had many flashlights and batteries on hand b. we learned that generators are not always the answer as we couldn’t get gas at that point – also that is not perfect in many other ways as well… extremely heavy, dangerous, ruins appliances – my fridge had to be replaced last outage because of that so im not even connecting it now to a generator) as doesnt run clean… amongst other issues that need to be taken into account. c. sewer pumps also very important to me even more so than refrigerators… and for that we need 220V connection… although I was extremely well prepared – JCP&L was not – and they should have learned the lesson from Sandy and been proactive with the manpower to fix this sooner than they are… and they should be maintaining their equipment better… This is not rocket science – it is 1 + 1 = 2… and unless we demand better – why should they skip their coffee break or their shmooze with their coworkers (I saw 2 workers simply laughing about instead of taking care of the work at hand)

  19. All these complainers have no clue how much work it is to cut up huge trees and fix miles of power lines and transformers. You all need a dose of reality. And the reason NJ utilities are so outdated is because NJ Democrats have spent all our taxes on illegals in this sanctuary state: free schools, free Healthcare especially free birthing for each of their 6 kids, free food stamps, section 8 rent checks, etc. How could NJ ever afford to upgrade their utilities when NJ and Gov. Murphy and his band of merry Democrats are supporting Central America and Mexico with NJ taxpayers money?

  20. few things… 1. fallen trees is not the full answer as ACP has underground wiring and no power still. 2. of course we learned from hurricane sandy – a. we now had many flashlights and batteries on hand b. we learned that generators are not always the answer as we couldn’t get gas at that point – also that is not perfect in many other ways as well… extremely heavy, dangerous, ruins appliances – my fridge had to be replaced last outage because of that so im not even connecting it now to a generator) as doesnt run clean… amongst other issues that need to be taken into account. c. sewer pumps also very important to me even more so than refrigerators… and for that we need 220V connection… although I was extremely well prepared – JCP&L was not – and they should have learned the lesson from Sandy and been proactive with the manpower to fix this sooner than they are… and they should be maintaining their equipment better… This is not rocket science – it is 1 + 1 = 2… and unless we demand better – why should they skip their coffee break or their shmooze with their coworkers (I saw 2 workers simply laughing about instead of taking care of the work at hand)

  21. Jack, you got it hit on! Frankly these same democrats don’t care about the economy or about peoples well-being, they only care about one thing: to replace Trump…and the more people ill, the more destruction the better for them….they are simply vicious!

  22. My husband works for the electric in this state, i will not say which company but they are working day and night to restore power, sleeping for maybe 5 hours and back to work. There are trees down everywhere complicating the situations. I know it is hard on the elderly, they are working to get it back on! They are risking their lifes with electric, away from their families for days but im sure noone thinks of that. Be grateful you still have a standing home and a roof over your head !!!!

  23. The COVID pandemic is also a natural disaster out of people’s control, yet that doesn’t seem to stop the suing of other districts or penalizing schools by withholding funds for not having virtual services (virtual services were never a state requirement!) that they couldn’t afford or couldn’t get ahold of due to backorder of electronic devices. But somehow natural disaster is an excuse once it happens to them. The irony.

  24. Boruch Hashem, thank you Hashem, and all the hard workers. Power is back in A Country Place and Jackson and North Lake. Not sure if everywhere. Lekovod Shabbos Kodesh

  25. Keep thanking hashem for the good in our lives, I’ve had a total power outage since Tuesday morning and thank good I’m alive and healthy. The power company are working overtime to restore over a million customers, not an easy task. When you happen to pass a crew working in this heat offer a drink.

  26. JCP&L should just keep working on what needs to be done and not announce any dates at all about service restoration.
    Have a blessed Shabbos.
