Local Yeshiva sends home all students as precaution; Tests came back negative [UPDATED]

A local Yeshivah barely got the school year started when it needed to close its doors due a positive Covid case in the school, TLS has learned.

When students showed up this morning to Yeshivah, they were greeted by the Rosh Yeshiva who was standing outside. The Bachurim were told that due to a Rebbe in the Yeshivah reportedly testing positive for Covid, they are sending everyone home.

The Bachruim were told to resume Yeshiva via phone conferencing until further notice.

UPDATE: TLS spoke with the school who says they initially sent home students as a precaution, but it turns out a test they thought may have been positive in fact came back negative. The students were allowed back.

  1. kinda inevitable under the present circumstances. The message? Daven to H-shem,and DON’T skip the mask or bristle angrily when asked to put one on over MOUTH AND NOSE!masks are pretty ineffectual when used as chin straps or loosely positioned between the lips. And DON’T touch your face because that is a major source of germs.

  2. This is getting ridiculous. No symptoms means you’re not ill.
If you are ill, then stay home. Same as any other illness.
At any given moment the human body is hosting billions of organisms that bh your body can fight. Just regular biology.

    • With all due respect, this is one of the most ignorant statement I’ve seen posted on TLS. Many people who have had this virus went from no symptoms to being on a respirator within days. Not to mention, one (or more) of the people exposed to this person (or exposed to others afterwards) may not be able to fight the virus like an asymptomatic person. The virus can take a while to show up in tests,

Just regular biology (all though, not really)

  3. To “Hello”- I’m assuming that they’re staying home to quarantine. To “Meir” thanks for the masking tips. Praying that everyone stays healthy and well through this all..

  4. Please please listen to our Dr’s and wear a mask! Yes it’s uncomfortable, but it’s a lot worse to have our kids out of school all year. Please please please wear a mask!

    • To MYS

Stop the fear mongering. Israel strictly enforces mask wearing with heavy fines and yet every day they have another 1500+ cases and in lakewood almost no one is wearing masks and almost no one has gotten sick since Shavuos

      STOP TRYING TO CONTROL EVERYONE

Wanna wear a mask? No problem.

BUT STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO WEAR AND WHERE I CANT GO

Mind your own business and worry about yourself and I’ll decide for myself what I want and dont want to do

  5. How could you not see this coming. No masks are worn in yeshiva, rabbeim are hanging around with the Talmidim. We MUST follow the guidelines set out for our PROTECTION believe it or not. If everyone just listens and follows the rules BezH all will be good.

  6. Tell this to those in Gourmet Glatt to wear masks who aren’t but than again they don’t even care. 2nd wave on the way get ready for lockdown. When will Klal Yisroel learn?

  7. We’ve been wearing masks for months. Any improvement? Not really. The masks are a feel good rule which suffocates the freedom right out of us.

  8. To Shmarya- I was just in Gourmet Glatt on Wednesday night and most shoppers (including myself obviously) were masked properly.. I agree that we must, must get to 100% proper masked compliance- but you will be relieved to know that most people WERE indeed 100% masked.

  9. Almost all local cases are tracable to weddings. Are the same people who felt that shuls and schools shouldn’t shut down from sakana ready to have them shut down for weddings to be regular?

  10. This should be a warning to all private schools. ALL schools both public and PRIVATE need to actually implement the safety protocols that public health experts have provided. WE can’t be reactive we need to be proactive.

  11. Lakewood has been open for over 3 months and many yeshivas and schools started up again around shevous time.
Now that more people are testing of course we will have more cases. Lets not get the fear mongering started. If you are sick speak with your Dr and stay home. Otherwise, carry on living.

    • Yeah, so about your “facts”. You do know test have been declining steadily for months in Lakewood, yes? And yet confirmed symptomatic cases have more than doubled for some weeks now.

There weren’t many cases Shavuos time. There are now. Is this really hard for you to understand? Do you have difficulty walking and talking at the same time?

  12. This can’t possibly be the method. Schools need to operate at send at your own risk. If you don’t want to seen stay home. But for all the healthy children who do want to take that risk and most of the town falls under that category…. positive cases should not result in classes closing. It’s time to get back.

  13. There is fear mongering and missinformation going around.

    1. The transmission rate is below 1%
    2. Yes people are still getting the virus, yet the trend is not going back up.
    3. Many have cotracted the virus while wearing masks.
    4. No one is counting the negative health effects, this virus is having on our emotional wellbeing or the adverse affects this will have on our children.

  14. @Esty That sounds like selfish thinking to me. Just curious do you send your kids with peanuts even when there kids that have a severe allergy? And do you vaccinate your kids?

  15. It’s time to unmask and go on as normal. The pandemic is OVER. People may still get sick like any other illness, but most of us either had it already or will only get mildly ill like any other cold or flu. Stop being so paranoid.

  16. Rosey-The pandemic is NOT over and antibodies don’t last for more than 3 months. I’m an NP at a local hospital and several colleagues that were infected with COVID 19 (and no, it wasn’t like the flu), had antibodies back in June, however as of last week 6 staff members are ZERO antibodies. So do us a favor and wear the mask. Stop treating hospital employees lives as expendable because you cannot be inconvenienced.
WEAR THE MASK and if you don’t please don’t seek care when you get sick. Remember MASKIT or CASKET.

  17. Not stating an opinion on the wear or not wear mask “debate” but…
I get the feeling that there are some here who while, rubbing their hands gleefully, sneering condescendingly, are just waiting for that “told you so!” moment…

    • Sadly the “I told you so” moment is going happen sooner or rather than later. I don’t think anyone is gleefully waiting for that to happen. I just think some healthcare workers are tired and don’t want to go through a 2nd wave when it could’ve been avoided. My partner is a health care exec and it seems that staff are just “done” and don’t have anything left to give…

  18. @mark, you’re off the mark.
Your last sentence is very foolish at best.
No others are right. Children belong in school. They must be in person learning.
We need to have some courage and not panic and hide (like joe Biden)

  19. Avi-Zero hospitalizations? My local hospital COVID census has been going up for the last 2 weeks. Do what you’re doing Avi, however someone will die because of your pure selfishness.

  20. Avi-Do you work in a hospital? I know for a fact that 3 regional hospitals have had their COVID census go up for the past 2 weeks. No wonder my colleagues cringe when we open the curtain and see people from the community. Complete selfishness. Do us a favor and don’t seek care.

    • Mark, dont feed us with vague non-statements

Tell us exactly how many covid patients were admitted into each of these 3 regional hospitals in the last two weeks

  21. mark there are 28 ventilated patients in the entire nj and your theory on antibodies that people people can catch it again means that a vaccine won’t work. Please go to medical school all the p.a. in town are playing like they are world renowned md.

  22. To Mark the NP. Thanks for ending with the words “maskit or casket” because until then you sounded reasonable and people may have taken you seriously. Those words showed your true shrill colors. Really anyone who doesn’t wear a mask is going to die and anyone who does will be saved? And let’s talk about something else Mr NP. My sister and cousin who are both NPs have clearly stated that they witnessed first hand how starvation and mishandled intubations killed many more COVID patients than COVID itself. So the medical community has some fixing to do before blaming others for the COVID deaths rch”l.

  23. Mark- u seem upset and full of hatred. I am an RN. And i sure pray i will never be ur pateint. Maybe take a break. It dosnt help u working, full of hate and resentment. Have a blessed day.

  24. Can u pls let us know which hospital u work in? So OUR community can avoid it and not be given second hand healthcare due to hatred and bias. Thanks.

  25. Have you heard of the Zelenko protoco.
Google Dr. Zelanko, or Dr. Simone Gold, Dr. Anthony Cardillo, Dr. Lisa Koche, Dr. George Fareer, or Dr. Harvey Risch. They all are proponents of Zinc, hydroxy, and azithoymycin. They have used it on their patients with success.

Any studies that you read that said it doesnt work is either because they gave lethal doses of the hydroxy, or they did not give zinc, or they gave it too late in the infection. It must be taken in the first few days.

The cure is not a vaccine. That may cause its own problems especially because it is being fast tracked.

  26. Everyone: I plead with you. Respect all opinions. It is ok to have two sides to this issue. Mi Keamcha Yisroel. Have a great day!

  27. Mark-I feel for you and can understand your frustration with the Lakewood community. I also work at a local hospital and cannot believe that after all that the Lakewood community has been through, they refuse to wear masks and practice social distancing. We’ve lost over 40 staff members within our system and yes it seems that some people think our lives are expendable. That being said, no matter how hurt you must be, you cannot take it out on patients. Our job is to educate and provide care. Keep in mind that you have the right to decline an assignment and I’d recommend you take a break from OJ patients. At least for now. Take care of yourself.
