Highest Marks for the LPD | Ron Benvenisti

In this time of news headlines screaming Defund the Police, Police stations are attacked and burned, officers are ambushed and even murdered, patrol cars are vandalized and burned, even while occupied by officers. I think it is highly appropriate and necessary to show our support for our local police officers.

Our beloved Lakewood Police Department scores high on what the FBI calls the “Embrace this Moment” initiative.

It should be obvious to everyone in Lakewood that the LPD listens to our community concerns with a determined compassion in the same way they hear us with open minds.

The LPD is top-notch in community relations. They never shrink back behind bulletproof reception windows but maintain an active and strong representation at community meetings, wherever they are held safely. Think of the highly innovative “Coffee with a Cop” program.

The LPD is constantly engaging children and teens with new activities and rewards, like the “Click It & Lick It” rewards program (now in its eighth year – founded and funded by TLS) to encourage our kids to wear helmets at all times when riding their bikes. Who can count the times that our officers to get out of their vehicles, talk with people, and listen to their concerns and opinions and even participate in basketball games with our kids. How about the monthly Child Passenger Safety Checkpoint program? The LPD gets high marks for community safety and engagement.

The Lakewood Police works hand in hand with the LCSW, Chaverim in an invaluable relationship which continually delivers a reliable safety presence in the community, actively assisting with search and rescue operations, emergency management and crime control.

The LPD’s social media presence is unparalleled as well, via their website, https://www.lakewoodpolicenj.com/ where you can make reports as well as get updated information. Chief Meyer is in constant contact with our community via The Lakewood Scoop with both formal and informal announcements regarding recent events as well as numerous safety tips tailored to the specific needs of the community.

Thank God that the national headlines do not reflect our local reality. The Lakewood Police Department never misses any opportunities that will help bind them to the people they serve. May God keep them safe and bless them for the incredible job they do, we are forever grateful for their above and beyond the call service.
