Message from the LRRC Re: Backdating Unemployment Claims

As per the Department of State, if you receive a call from 866-812-5907, that is a legitimate Unemployment number, and you can feel comfortable disclosing personal information necessary to backdate your claim.

As previously posted, if you are waiting for benefits for the time between when you lost your job and when you filed for Unemployment, you need to request those retroactive benefits by speaking to a Department of Labor representative. You can try calling 201-601-4100 or 732-761-2021. Sunday morning may be the shortest wait time. You can also leave a message at 866-812-5907, and someone will call you back. It is difficult to get through to them, but do not worry. The Department of Labor confirmed that all benefits will be retroactive.

As always, you may contact us at [email protected] or 732-942-9292 with any questions.

  1. Be careful. Very easy to spoof a caller ID number. Especially now that such information is posted publicly. Be very careful. Perhaps LRRC can advise what questions to ask to ensure it’s actually legitimate. One thing I can say is if you ask too many questions the crooks usually just hang up.

    • If you want to know what a real call from the unemployment office is like — I got a call about a month ago (about a different issue with my claim), and they did NOT ask me to give any sensitive personal info. As far as I remember, she only asked me to confirm some details about the dates. The woman on the phone was very kind, friendly, and it was obvious that she had access to all the information on what’s going on with my claim.

  2. I only got 13 weeks of the $600 and this week I got my state unemployment but they didn’t send the 14th week of the $600 . Any one know why that is ? I thought the $600 was for total of 14 weeks or 16 weeks

  3. I received a call back from 732-761-2026 and I requested my retroactive payments. This was abt 3 weeks ago and I still did not receive them. How long does it take and do we have to certify for this money or is it automatically deposited into the bank account on file?
