Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Dangerous Intersection

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

The most dangerous intersection between Lakewood in Jackson is on the corner of Hope Chapel Road and new Central. There is currently blinking red lights only on the new central side and is very difficult to see traffic coming up and down Hope Road. Is there anyway to either make that into a four way stop sign or put up a traffic light?

Response from Mayor Coles:

These are county roads. Our engineering department spoke to the county engineer and confirmed they are designing improvements to the intersection. I also asked them to keep on top of it during their regular meetings & see if we cannot test the county to expedite work there.

Ray

  1. Make note that almost all problematic roads, intersections, turning lanes are all County roads. The answer is always the same “we will talk to the County”. Don’t you think with all the tax dollars Lakewood is giving the County our driving time and accidents should be more of a priority?

  2. The Most Dangerous for a Pedestrian is the Intersection of Clifton Ave and Fourth Street.
I’d rather Walk Point for a Rifle Platoon of the 10th Mountain Division on the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan than try to Cross there.

  3. Huh? You can see just fine there. It’s just hard to make the left as is everywhere on Hope Chapel these days; there is too much traffic. Go a different way to an existing light. Most of Hope Chapel traffic (aside from the obvious that it is people trying to avoid route 9) is from the South Lake Drive light. Adding more lights creates problems; it doesn’t solve them.

  4. Do away with the four stop signs altogether. They’re worthless & ineffective. Wishing all of Klal Yisrael a gbentched 5781 year & easy, meaningful Kippur fast. Hashem should protect us all.
