Lakewood’s Bnos Devorah second school to announce voluntary closure until after Sukkos

Lakewood’s Bnos Devorah girls school today announced it is closing until after Sukkos due to covid concerns.

The announcement comes after last night’s announcement by Bnos Esther Malka.

In the notice, the school added, “Looking ahead to after Yom Tov, as per Dr. Shanik, even in the event of Covid cases in a class, staff and students who have antibodies will be able to come to school.”

  1. Can someone please explain something? In May, the lakewood doctors put out a letter saying that antibodies don’t confirm immunity, as reported on TLS. Now everyone, including doctors and Rabbanim, are putting alot of trust in these antibody tests. What changed, especially that these tests are not 100% accurate?

  2. People with antibodies can come
To School? Do you want me to
Purposely infect my children so that they can develop antibodies ?this doesn’t seem Fair to people who followed Protocol And kept to the rules and didn’t get exposed.

  3. It is time we pressure the doctors (or the goverment if that’s the problem) to give HCQ prophylactically. If that happens, nobody would have to close down and we could go on with life. Anyone know what this isn’t happening?

  4. I agree with “its time”. I just got some hydroxychloroquine from a doctor out of Lakewood. Use your own seichel and do what you need to do to help yourself. Please don’t wait for the American medical association to help you.

    • If people could get a hydroxychloriquine prescription, then great. But for many, doctors aren’t inclined to prescribe it. But there are supplements, namely Quercetin and EGCG, people can take that are over the counter that serve as an alternative albeit with lesser potency as hydroxychloriquine in terms of its mechanism to enable Zinc to penetrate the cell membrane and block viral replication. Quercetin and EGCG(found in green tea) are zinc ionophores and should certainly be considered as a prophylaxis along with Zinc. Quercetin has the added benefit in that may reduce the cytokine storm induced by the virus. It has also gone through numerous studies albeit mostly in vitro that demonstrated its potential to combat viruses and bacteria, namely SARS 1, Influenza,Zika and many others. Vitamin C and D should be taken as well as a prophylaxis.

    • Don’t be so carefree about HCL. I took HCL. My doctor required a current EKG on record to examine before prescribing which he happened to have for me. He also required an EKG done after being on the medication for a couple of days to ensure it does not have an adverse affect on heart rhythm It is not simple to get an EKG while positive for covid as most medical centers will not let you in.. HCL will also limit which antibiotics can be prescribed as some Antibiotics combined with HCL have an adverse affect on heart rhythm.

  5. Best thing to do is resume on line learning or if a family can afford it, home school their children. It’s just way too risky and problematic to continue with indoor instruction. Why take chances.
Bore’ Olam should protect us all.

  6. Based on dr shaniks comment re antibodies- if I have corona, I can send my children to school as long as they have antibodies?
Is it proven that someone with antibodies can’t infect another person? Can they still be carrying the disease even if they have enough antibodies not to get sick?

  7. I seem to be missing something. What will we gain by shutting one or two schools? Or even all of them? Unless we shelter in place everyone is still all around each other outside in stores in shuls? How many people will just go do their succos plans early!

  8. @ Wondering. Please listen to the experts (CDC etc…) on this subject who have said that we can’t rely on antibodies at this time. We don’t know if they are neutralizing. Don’t listen to some school for your medical advice.

  9. Schools dont want to take achrayus so its easier for them to close 1 or 2 days early. Then after Sukkos, the situation will be reevaluated again and will decide if they feel its safe to reopen.
