Lakewood got a little safer this evening, thanks to the addition of multiple fresh graduates of the Fire Academy to its ranks.
The graduation ceremony took place this evening at Lakewood’s Blue Claws stadium.
The new graduates underwent 6 1/2 months of rigorous training at the Fire Academy, with 3 1/2 hour classes twice a week – including physical training before each class – and 6 to 8 hours of hands-on training every 2 weeks.
Of the more than two dozen Fire Academy graduates, 7 are joining the Lakewood Fire Department, two as career firefighters, and five as volunteers.
Lakewood Assistant Fire Chief Steve Mulholland told TLS he was incredibly proud and grateful for all the firefighters and their families who provide a vital service to the community.
“I would like to thank the firefighters and their families for their devotion and selflessness,” Assistant Chief Mulholland said. “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the families of the graduating firefighters for allowing them to take the time away so that they could attend school.”
