And yet again, there are two streets in Lakewood with the same name – Railroad Street.
The streets are not a West and East or North and South, but rather both Railroad Street.
The original Railroad Street is off of Main Street, while the new one is off Majestic Way – in the Prospect Street area.
In 2016, confusion over street names delayed the emergency response to a home, and a similar incident occurred in 2019. Officials then said they would be taking action.
One possibility of how this occurred is this particular street was a paper street given its name prior to the Township crackdown.
Township officials tell TLS they will be looking into this.
Simple Solution:
The new street should be Rail Avenue and the existing one can remain Railroad. GPS’s will go insane with this, as will Hatzolah. Change it NOW!
There are no houses on the new rairoad st. It is just a bypass rd from james to the new Sunset grove development.
Give the builders time there will be houses there. The plans might already be drawn up.
It is the same road, just not connected to each other, hence the same name. Henry St. also has 2 parts, yet doesn’t connect through Wiliams st.

Even “Railroad Road” can be confusing. Just too similar! How can this happen even without a crackdown? We have enough confusion with all the “Cedars.” Cedar court, cedar row,& more cedars. You don’t need a crackdown, just some common sense.
Need a Street Naming Committee whose job it would be to research historic Lakewood events and personalities suitable for street names, such as original settlers, tavern and pub names, trees, crops, mills, mining companies, farms, outstanding legislature members from long ago. The name would have to be universally acceptable . Lakewood is an historic place with a history. from the “old” country for one.
Same issue with the duplicate Salem St off of Vine Ave.
I have been emailing the committeemen and The Mayor for a number of years to get this changed but nothing has been done.

Anyways no houses can possibly be built on this road as one side is the tracks and one side is private backyards to houses

Brooklyn suggestion. Old railroad street & new railroad street should be used. Hope this solves the machloket. A gbentched 5781 to Klal Yisrael. Hashem should protect us all.
