President Trump Nominates Amy Coney Barrett To The Supreme Court

At the White House today, President Trump announced he was nominating Amy Coney Barrett to fill the vacancy on the US Supreme Court following the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Barrett, who is currently a judge on the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, is a strong conservative and Constitutional textualist who believes that the Constitution must be interpreted in the way the country’s Founding Fathers intended them to be.

Amy Coney Barrett was a top-5 contender to be nominated for the Supreme Court the last time there was an opening – following the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy – but President Trump eventually chose Brett Kavanaugh as Kennedy’s replacement.

Democrats are expected to attack Barrett’s strongly conservative views and her religious beliefs during confirmation hearings in the Senate. And while Democrats will do all they can to postpone the Senate confirmation process, the Republican majority in the Senate means that Amy Coney Barrett is almost guaranteed to be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice before Election Day.
