Study Ranks New Jersey As The Most Physically and Emotionally Fit State

A new study ranks New Jersey number one in the “emotional & physical well-being” category, besting neighboring New York and Pennsylvania, who finished 6th and 28th respectively.

The annual “Happiest States in America” report by WalletHub also ranked the Garden State fourth on the “Happiest State” list, with number 1 going to Hawaii. New York finished 17.

For their study, WalletHub relied on “happiness” research to determine which environmental factors are linked to a person’s overall well-being and satisfaction with life.

Previous studies have found that good economic, emotional, physical and social health are all key to a well-balanced and fulfilled life.

To determine each state’s rankings, they examined all 50 states across 32 key metrics, ranging from the depression rate and the positive COVID-19 testing rate to income growth and the unemployment rate.

New Jersey also had the lowest percentage of adult depression, was tied for first in the adequate sleep rate metric, and has the lowest suicide rate.

Among the negatives, New Jersey ranked 48th of all states with those who were on the long-term unemployment rate.

Notably, West Virginia finished 50th in the happiest state category and in the physical and emotional wellbeing category.
