The Ocean County Health Department is reporting zero new cases in Lakewood having been delivered yesterday, in a major victory for a community recently beleaguered by a spike in new cases.
A second wave of coronavirus had been observed in Lakewood in the past two months, with cases steadily rising each day, prompting questions over whether Governor Murphy would shut down shuls and yeshivos.
But thanks to a community-wide initiative to massively increase testing, new cases were quickly identified and those infected went into quarantine. This led to a sharp drop in new cases over the past two weeks, with the number of new cases more similarly reflecting the rest of New Jersey.
With zero new cases now being reported for Saturday, the efforts of tens of thousands in the community have paid off. This doesn’t mean we are out of the woods, as Governor Murphy often says. But it shows how a community united as one can fight back against this virus.
The closing of schools, shuls, and businesses, which appeared to be a certainty just several weeks ago, is now a bad dream staved off by a community that rallied to help itself.
With Hashem’s help!
#thankyouhashem
….and you think that really means no one came down with corona yesterday?? a little seichel please. it just means that many people don’t care whether they have an official diagnosis or not- and they stay home without getting tested.
That is not correct. Because the first several days after contracting the virus, you are asymptomatic.
THANK YOU HASHEMITE!!!
The headline should say zero new cases REPORTED.
@that’s your opinion:
Really? Why is it that I knew dozens of neighbors and friends who were newly positive three weeks ago but not a single one today? Nor does anyone else I asked.
Yes I can be 0. It’s harder to spread unless you careless as a lot of people had it. Since Rosh Hashona people were more careful . Fact
You can only get an accurate picture if people with symptoms are encouraged to test. Also one day is not enough to declare victory.
Don’t fall for the trap! DON’T TEST!
(If you must test for some reason, the spit/saliva test is much more accurate than the nasal test which returns many FALSE positives.)
Could this be because no one tests on Shabbos?
No – it takes several days for test to be reported. The Saturday stats did not come in yet.
As someone who got covid this time around and promised that I wouldn’t test – once you have symptoms, its pretty hard to stay home without testing…I did test, as did my wife. Both positive.
I knew many people coming down with symptoms – new symptoms – almost every day. Over the last week, I do not know of a single new case from any friends.
I discussed with a doctor who told me that he has been testing many people every day, and has not had a positive case since isru chag.
That’s because the zman started and everyone Started learning. Our learning is protecting Lakewood
Hmmm..Maybe going to shul IS the answer
I didn’t test, I won’t test and I rarely wear a mask unless under duress. I take vitamin D, zinc, C and other stuff. I’m not saying we shouldn’t be careful, but, we don’t have to as fearful as some people are.
You are admitting to your selfishness. You will do the things that a minute amount of doctors claim may work, to help yourself. But to wear a mask, which the vast majority of experts say will work to help others, you refuse.
Shame on you
To “my 3 cents”:
You are selfish and ignorant!!! Masks protect yourself and the other person. When both wear masks correctly (not under the nose or chin) it doubles the probability of protection for both.
Note: A side affect of wearing masks is that it cuts down on the flu and pneumonia tremendously, probably a lot better than a flu shot.
you can’t have it both ways… complain that no one is compliant and now say there are no cases because everyone was compliant… maybe the testing is a trap message was right? no one will ever know what the truth is…
to “my 3 cents”, here is my 4 cents:
I couldn’t have said it better than you did.
The only thing I’ll add is that I wear a mask so as to not make a Chillul H-shem (I believe that the way masks are used currently they hurt more than they help but I wear one anyways to avoid Chillul H-shem).
I don’t think we can draw any conclusions just yet about one day. We had about 2400 cases before the summer. And since July added almost 3600 cases according to http://www.ochd.org/covid-19-case-totals (Ocean County Health Department website) for a total of 5969 cases. A lot of cases in recent months.
BS”D
Every year viruses spread through the population.
Most people don’t even know they have them.
Except for the miniscile percent who die, everyone is left with immunity.
Covid is no different.
Instead of validating the government’s excuse for shutting schools, businesses and houses of worship by being covid tested and wearing masks, go with the scientific truth.
In March they used deaths as an excuse to deprive people of their livelihoods.
Now there are very few deaths, so they’re using meaningless tests.
Always go with the truth!
It is CRIMINAL to force young children to wear masks – especially for long periods of time!
The damage to their emotional health, social development and physical health is frightening to think about.
THEY NEED TO BREATH!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is child abuse on a massive scale! Nothing less!!!!!
