Howell Police Vehicle Struck By Motorist On Phone

A motorist who was illegally using her phone while driving on Route 9 in Howell had an unexpected encounter with police when she crashed directly into one.

Howell police say that officers were investigating a motor vehicle accident Sunday night on Route 9 near Casino Drive. While the officers were out of their vehicles, a motorist who later admitted to being on her phone struck one of the unoccupied patrol vehicles. Thankfully, nobody was injured and the motorist, a Howell resident, was issued a summons.

“This is another reminder that it only takes a second to possibly ruin the rest of your life or someone else’s,” Howell police said in a statement. “We all are guilty of it on occasion but when there’s an active emergency scene that’s definitely not the time to be doing so. Move over or significantly slow for stopped emergency vehicles. This includes our tow/wrecker services.”

  1. In other words, she lied as the cops perused her phone log. Be advised, if you are spotted or reported you won’t get away with it. Your odometer records your trips and your phone records your phone call times.

    First offense: $200 to $$400
    Second offense: $400 to $600
Third offense: $600 to $800, 3 points and 90-day suspension

Accidents: Injuries From $1000 to $10000 (6 to 18 months in jail and suspended license)

    Death: $150,000 and 5 to 10 years.

BTW: No more insurance in all cases.

Easy case to prove, your phone and your car records are the indisputable evidence.
