R’ Naftoli grew up in Frankfurt, Germany, before immigrating to the United States after Kristallnacht, where he went to learn in Telze Cleveland followed by Bais Medrash Govoha in Lakewood. An active member of the Agudah alongside R’ Moshe Sherer, he was involved throughout his life in matters pertaining to his kehilla and US Jewry. His home was open to all who were in need and he supported numerous yeshivos and mosdos hatorah as much as he could.

R’ Naftali was the very essence of an “Ehrlicher Yid”. Everything that he did in his life was thought about, and each decision was determined by what he believed to be the Ratzon Hashem. Wherever he went, he created a Kiddush Hashem. He was the quintessential mentch and baal achraious. As the “Askan” par-excellence; he served as the personal advisor and confidante to Rabbanim, Roshei Yeshivos, Admorim and to many Directors of Mosdos for over six decades.

He was the scion of the Hirsch family, a title that he carried with responsibility and dignity. He raised his family with tremendous love, warmth and understanding, while embuing them with midos tovos, ahavas Hashem, ahavas Torah and the tools they needed to go on to build beautiful Torah homes.

He is survived by his children – Mrs. Rifky Grunhut of Lakewood, Mrs. Yehudis Stern of Lakewood, Mrs. Frumi Hanover of Brooklyn, Rabbi Mordechai Hirsch of Passaic, Mrs. Naomi Lisker of Passaic – and his siblings, Rav Shimon Hirsch of Monsey, Mrs. Ettel Eisenberg of Lakewood, and Mrs. Chana Weinstein of Brooklyn.

Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
