The Lakewood Police Department is continuing its investigation into the dead pig incident – first reported by TheLakewoodScoop.com.

“The Lakewood Police Department is actively conducting a Bias Harassment investigation, with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department as well as several of our local counterparts,” Captain Greg Staffordsmith said.

Police say they were able to determine the event had taken place sometime between midnight and 7:00 am.

  1. A guy who is not too fond of me once dropped off a football on my doorstep. I asked him why he would leave a present for me on my doorstep. He scoffed at me and said, “Joke’s on you, that football is made out of pigskin!”

A couple of weeks later he left a wallet for me on my doorstep. I asked him why he did that. He said, “Joke’s on you, that wallet is made from pigskin.” Afterward, I left him a note on his doorstep saying, “Joke’s on YOU, there was a hundred dollar bill in that wallet!”

  2. It makes me nervous that the ADL has already gotten involved… Although unlikely, it is not out of the realm of possibility that this was done by someone who actually knows the Rabbi.
The end result of that is egg on our collective faces for crying anti-Semitism.
It is probably prudent to hold off on the accusations till there is some concrete knowledge.

  3. I think as the Orthodox move into more towns in Ocean and Monmouth County there needs to be more effort from your community to build bridges and educate us non-Jews. I see more and more Orthodox families in Freehold, Marlboro and Manalapan, towns in which people of all religions and faiths co-exist. It is a very different mindset and environment than Ocean County so people will be more likely to be receptive here to listen. The Chabad have done a wonderful job in doing outreach to educate non-Jews here in Western Monmouth County, I am not saying this will solve the problem of anti-Semitism but it is a step in the right direction.

  4. As a non-Jew, it pains me to read stories like this. IF this crime, was in fact perpetrated by someone outside of the frum community, there is a strong possibility that it was done by someone who is politically on the right (aka, a Trump supporter). Before anyone gets too excited, I’m just saying it is possible…which is a real shame, considering that most Orthodox Jews are likewise Trump supporters, and generally-Conservative in their political views. In another place and time, this would make them allies… If outsiders made the effort to understand the frum community, they would find that they have much in common, the same conclusion that my studies have lead me to.
