UPDATE: 2 Arrested in Connection with New Year’s Shooting in Lakewood

Two people are in custody following the New Year’s shooting in Lakewood, police told TLS.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on January 1, an anonymous caller reported shots fired in the Center Street parking lot, police said. “The caller advised that a black male passenger was seen shooting a firearm from the passenger seat of a small silver SUV before it fled east on Cedarbridge Avenue.”

“First arriving units, Officers Justin Burkhardt and Christopher Garretson located a at least one empty shell casing at the scene. As other units continued to respond into the area, Officers Michelle Banuelos and James Mahecha observed what they believed to be the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Cedarbridge Avenue and New Hampshire Avenue. The Officers relayed the information and then conducted a high risk felony stop in the parking lot of Quick Check.”

Captain Greg Staffordsmith says, “Further investigation determined that the rear passenger of the Jeep Compass, identified as Joseph Torres was in possession of a loaded firearm located in the waistband of his pants. An additional passenger was found to be in the possession of a controlled dangerous substance and was also subsequently placed under arrest.”

    • Thuggery has it’s own “cool” apparel. You’ll never see anyone wear a jacket that says: The entire world is a narrow bridge. The essential thing is not to fear at all.
However, the embroidery would be difficult.
