UPDATE: Just after 3pm on Friday, the Lakewood Police Department received numerous calls in reference to a motor vehicle crash and possible shots fired near the intersection of E. 5th Street and School Garden Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a motor vehicle that struck a utility pole. The vehicle was occupied by a lone female who was transported to a local hospital after she sustained minor injuries.

Witnesses to the event informed police that at least two other occupants exited the vehicle after the crash and fled on foot towards the rear of Ella G. Clarke School.

Based on the information provided, officers on scene took necessary precaution and initiated an extensive search of the area and nearby schools were placed on a temporary lockdown by school administrators.

At this time, the investigation is active and ongoing with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.
