FRIGHTENING: Bikers Taken Hostage After Getting Lost in Woods in Jackson

Two bikers are lucky to be alive after being held at gunpoint in Jackson after apparently getting lost in the woods.

According to Jackson Police, officers responded on Friday to reports of a man holding two hostages at gunpoint on Nancy Court. Upon arrival, they searched the wooded area behind the residence with before being directed to the actual location of the incident in the woods of Werko Place. Dispatch advised officers the male subject was on the phone with them and was going to place his hands in the air as they arrived. Officers located a male subject standing in the woods with his phone up to his ear. A loaded .22 caliber rifle was observed approximately 25 feet from where he was standing as well as multiple rounds located in his pocket.

The two individuals, who were reportedly held at gun point, stated that they were encountered by the armed suspect as they were trying to navigate their way out of the woods while they were riding their dirt bikes. According to their statements, the suspect had pointed the firearm at them several times and would not allow them to leave, directing them to exit their bikes and to come with him. At one point during the encounter when one of the victims refused to comply, in fear of what may happen had he followed, the suspect then reportedly pressed the muzzle of the firearm into his stomach with his finger on the trigger as a scare tactic. According to the victims, the suspect then stated that he would be contacting both victim’s parents before calling the police himself.

The suspect stated to officers that he was sitting in his home when he could see two individuals drive past his house on dirt bikes. He then advised officers he exited his home with his .22 Caliber rifle and entered the woods looking for the individuals. The suspect also informed officers he did not point his rifle at the two individuals and that he had the rifle under his arm when he approached them.

The suspect, later identified as Roger Stewart, was arrested and charged with Possession of Weapons for Unlawful Purposes and Aggravated Assault. Stewart was lodged in the Ocean County Jail as a result of his charges.

  1. The reports never said the bikers names or ages. Were they juveniles? If I were those bikers, I’d prosecute and if unable to go forward file a civil suit to own that gunmans’ everything.

  2. Loud Motorized DIRT BIKERS are a common problem for large wooded residential properties: A relative of mine used to live on such a property in Lakewood before it became a high class development of which everyday 2 such bikers used to roar through his wooded backyard, his wife was ill, he was nervous so I went in to the woods with him, I put on gloves & took garden tools, we rolled logs, schlepped everything we can find and we blocked their path of which we than heard those bikers much further away.
These dirt bikers were no angels as they were too lazy to load the bikes on to a pickup truck bed and enjoy them in a park which allows them, but they are harmless, thieves don’t come with loud motorized bikes, thieves sneak in silently and invisibly .
The homeowner must be some very nervous, troubled drunk or drug addict that he had done that, Ocean County knows these guys, they know what to do with him.

  3. Lakewood mother.if they were trespassing he wouldn’t be in jail.typical loner causing trouble.he should’ve been charged with kidnapping as well..
