BREAKING: Lakewood Bans Sale of Marijuana In the Township

The Lakewood Township Committee has unanimously passed an ordinance banning the sale of marijuana in Lakewood.

The move comes following the passage of a referendum to legalize recreational marijuana in New Jersey, and subsequent legislation to regulate the selling and taxing of cannabis in the state. Numerous school officials and parents have expressed their disapproval and concerns over the legalization of marijuana and its ramifications, especially in a town like Lakewood, whose population consists of a high percentage of children.

Activists note that, despite the positive coverage marijuana mostly gets in the media, there are some very serious negative effects it can have on children and teens. Some of those adverse effects include: School difficulties; Problems with memory and concentration; Increased aggression; Car accidents; Risky behaviors; Worsening of underlying mental health conditions including mood changes and suicidal thinking; Increased risk of psychosis; and Interference with prescribed medication

“We know that the legalization of marijuana in New Jersey poses a serious threat to our children’s wellbeing,” the principal of a Lakewood school told TLS. “While this ordinance is perhaps only a dent in the fight to keep our children safe and well-adjusted, it nevertheless is a worthy one – one that will hopefully have a positive effect on our children.”

    • Yes, and they could also make the sale without it being legalized in NJ. The purpose of this is to make a statement: that we don’t agree with the legalization of marijuana. And hopefully reduce the amount going around in Lakewood.

  1. Here in Lakewood we don’t need marijuana – we BH have Limmud Hatorah that beats any of this stuff by far. Try it out and you’ll be on a high …higher than you can imagine and you won’t feel the need for any of that stuff out there or any other meshugas for that matter, except for maybe a little booze once in a while…

  2. I wish all these schools and askanim would have the same attitude towards school not opening when any child is not in school yet. This might damage their physical being but a child staying at home is damaging their ruchniyus and it’s humiliating, and many other problems

  3. I do agree with the downsides mentioned here. I think marijuana should be by prescription only. The mad rush to legalization for recreational use is dangerous. At the very minimum, the age threshold should be 21+ just like alcohol but the amount should be limited per sale per person within a certain timeframe. I’m afraid their is so much “corporatism” and politics involved that any sensibility will be overshadowed by greed and stupidity by the powers that be.

  4. so why did they tell us to vote for these liberal guys, they openly said they would legalize mamajuana ? you cant vote for it and then complain its here!

  5. But it’s ok to sell dope and give out free Narcan and Let the teenagers and young children be exposed to that kinda stuff going on around the town…
