  1. Am I the only one noticing all the posts of car accidents?
    Why are we so reckless??
Maybe sefira is a good time to recognize that we have road rage or neglectful driving issues.
Maybe today is a good day to try to allow someone else go in front of you, or turn that left turn when they’re ready to or stop at a yellow light instead of speeding up.
I’m just as guilty as anyone else, but I think it’s time we do something to make driving in this town safer.

  2. To comment number 1: Respectfully, though. You can definitely be better by keeping your driving lessons to yourself, ESPECIALLY STOPPING FOR A YELLOW LIGHT, Shema Yisrael. That’s what causes rear-end collisions. Shevoatov to all.

    • Living at a major intersection in Lakewood I get to see a fair number of rear enders which are not caused by someone jamming on the brakes as soon as the light turns yellow, but are caused by the person following the first car assuming they will just blast through the yellow even when there is plenty of time to stop. Before the naysayers start their comments I have a security camera that covers that part of my yard which makes it easy to see what happened.

  3. To comment #1, you are absolutely correct. People in Lakewood are very reckless. How many times have we seen a light turn red just to have 2-3 cars continue through the intersection? Even better is continuing into the intersection on the red light and getting stuck in the middle because they didn’t want to wait for the next light thereby blocking traffic. Speeding? I live on a generally quiet street which is a 25MPH zone and people regularly do 35-45MPH on it. Thankfully no children have been hit. Stop signs, don’t even get me started. People double parking, parking faced the wrong way or even better parking in a driveway with the back end of the car sticking out in the street while obstructing the sidewalk. A little over 5 years ago my job moved to Brick and after just a couple of trips down the length of County Line Rd convinced me to purchase dash cams.

  4. To comment number 4. Whatever you claim your security camera records as to the reasoning of rear-end collisions, you can also be reasonably sure that slamming one’s brakes at a yellow light is also a contributing factor.

  5. To comment number 4: Respectfully, though. You mean to say that your security camera never recorded a rear-end collision caused by a motorist slamming on his brakes at a yellow light? I find that hard to believe. Shevoatov.

    • Not a one. But I can tell you that on any given day it records a large amount of people running the yellow/red light. So you have car #1 (as well as 1-2 cars following behind it) making a turn on the yellow from a stop and car #2 coming from the opposite direction speeding up at the yellow light .This is the most common cause of accidents at my corner since everyone is trying to beat the yellow light instead of just being patient and waiting that awful 2 minutes for the light to change. Anyway if someone were to jam the brakes on at a yellow light you are supposed to maintain a safe distance behind them so it shouldn’t be a problem to stop in time.

  6. To zman. Correct. A safe distance should always be maintained between your vehicle and the one ahead just incase of the unpredictable. A yellow light though is not for stopping although I agree one should not speed up just to beat it. A helpful addition to most intersections, I think, has been the addition of count down timers which informs motorists of the amount of seconds remaining before the traffic light changes.
